I don’t think there’s anyone out there who doesn’t love a good Nora Ephron movie. She made everyone’s favorite movies, from Sleepless in Seattle to When Harry Met Sally. No matter which is your favorite, there’s most likely a movie on this list you haven’t seen yet. That being said, after watching a few of these movies this weekend you may find your new favorite Nora Ephron movie.

You’ve Got Mail

On a personal note, You’ve Got Mail is my favorite Nora Ephron movie of all time. There’s so much to love about it. Nora Ephron knows how to tell a good love story, as is evidenced by the fact that she makes an amazing love story out of something that is basically just online dating. Even so, there’s not much about this movie that isn’t perfect, Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks included. As Mindy Kaling once said, “I don’t get why Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan even do movies without the other in them.” Neither do I, Mindy Kaling. Neither do I.

Sleepless in Seattle

Sleepless in Seattle is another Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks classic. I’m probably the only person who found this movie suspenseful, but every time I watch it, no matter what, I find myself screaming at the TV screen like I don’t know what’s going to happen.

3

Julie and Julia

While I just recently saw this movie, Julie and Julia instantly became one of my favorite movies ever. A lot of people think that it’s just a movie about food. I was one of those people, and that kept me from watching this movie for so long. It’s not just a movie about food. It’s a movie about love, friendships, and admiration.

4

Hanging up

Hanging Up is a movie that Nora Ephron wrote with her sister Delia. It’s a fictional movie that somewhat parallels their real lives, as most of their movies and books tend to do. It chronicles their lives as they deal with the passing of their father. It got mixed reviews, but I personally loved it. With Diane Keaton, Meg Ryan, and Lisa Kudrow playing the main characters, you really can’t go wrong.

5

Heartburn

Heartburn is another fictional movie that was based off of Nora Ephron’s real life. Rachel Samstat learns her husband is cheating on her while she’s pregnant. Many people didn’t see the humor in the movie, but I thought the dry humor and wit throughout the entire film are what make the movie what it is. Plus it’s starring Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson. It doesn’t get much better.

Famous Quotes

To give oneself earnestly to the duties due to men, and, while respecting spiritual beings, to keep aloof from them, may be called wisdom.

When Harry Met Sally

The classic Nora Ephron movie, When Harry Met Sally is the movie I think everyone remembers best. It’s definitely the most quoted, whether it’s “I love that you get cold when it’s 71 degrees out” or “Men and women can’t be friends because the sex part always gets in the way.” Honestly, you probably quote this movie on a weekly basis without realizing it.

7

Bewitched

Bewitched is interesting in that it’s a remake without being a shot-for-shot remake. It’s a movie about remaking the classic TV show, but a real witch ends up with the part. Plus, it’s starring Will Ferrell, meaning it’s undoubtedly hilarious.

What’s your favorite Nora Ephron movie? Is it one from this list? Let me know in the comments.
