So here are the 7 best movies to watch before you go to Italy!

Roman Holiday

This is hands down, one of the best movies to watch before you go to Italy. Not only is it a classic, it shows you Rome the way it was meant to be shown. Every time I watch this film, I can’t get over just how perfect it is to see Audrey Hepburn scooting around town on a vespa with a handsome Gregory Peck. The fact that there are so many incredible places to see in Rome is beautifully captured in this movie, and it will show you places that you must, must see!

UPD:

Directed by the legendary William Wyler, Roman Holiday is more than a charming romantic comedy; it's a love letter to Rome itself. As you follow the enchanting tale of a princess on the run, you find yourself virtually wandering through the Eternal City—the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain all feature prominently. The film, shot entirely on location, serves as a magnificent time capsule, inviting you to stroll alongside the characters through picturesque streets and inviting piazzas. Roman Holiday doesn't just entertain; it encapsulates the spirit of Roman adventure that awaits every traveller.

Letters to Juliet

I’m watching this as I write this article, and the reason it’s one of the best movies to watch before you go to Italy is because this film highlights love, as much as it shows off Italy. It somehow makes you feel the love emitting from the screen, and it just appears to be escalated by the beauty that the actors are surrounded by. Plus, if you’re going in the summer, just look at what Amanda Seyfried wears, and you’ll know what to pack, I promise you.

3

Under the Tuscan Sun

How I adore this film. Not only is it one of the best movies to watch before you go to Italy, it’s also one of the best films to watch on any given day. Tuscany is gorgeous, but be warned, watching this movie will make you want to pack up your things and go buy a house in Italy. Then you’ll want to renovate the house and learn how to cook elaborate beautiful dinners and invite all your friends over to join in the festivities. If you haven’t yet seen this movie, seriously, go watch it!

4

Eat Pray Love

There are times when I have this movie on constant repeat. The part where Julia Roberts’ character goes to Italy is hands down my favourite part of the film. This is one of the best movies to watch before going to Italy, and it will make you want to try every kind of food this beautiful country has to offer. If you’re brave, learn the language and go to a restaurant and order! Make sure to also go to Naples and search out that pizza place they ate at, I actually went there, and yes the pizza really is that good.

5

When in Rome

First off, I love Kristen Bell, and Josh Duhamel is always a joy to look at, so I figured why not? I’ll watch this movie! Then I fell in love with it, because not only does it show off the beauty of Italy, it makes you believe that love really can exist, all the while making you laugh at the same time. This is definitely one of the best movies to watch before going to Italy; heck if you can, watch it on the plane ride over!

Casanova

Venice is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and if you can go no, go before it sinks! The very name Casanova evokes love and passion, and so does Italy as a country. Casanova, starring Heath Ledger (RIP) and Sienna Miller is one of best movies to watch before going to Italy because it shows you just how rich Venice was in its heyday; nt just literally rich, but rich in culture, food, entertainment, everything! We all fall under the spell of our very own Casanova at one point or another in our lives!

7

The Tourist

One of the best movies to watch before going to Italy stars 2 of the hottest actors in Hollywood – Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. This film has tons of twists and turns, and will definitely appeal to adventurous souls. It has some of the best footage of Venice, the camera lens simply devours Rome, and Angie makes us all want to dive into her closet. This really is a beautiful film, in fact I think I might watch it tonight. You should too!

It’s always exciting travelling to a destination that you see in films, be it Italy, France, New York, anywhere. The beautiful thing is, you’ll be able to see the country through the lens of the rich and famous, who can take us to beautiful places that we can only hope to search for once we get there! So tell me, what are some of your favourite movies to watch to get you excited for an upcoming vacation?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

I love "Letters To Juliet" probably because I love Amanda Seyfried!!! ❤️

Hello there! I'm an Italian girl, and I live in Venice. Well, actually, in the REAL one. I won't criticize "the tourist" as the movie it is, but as the picture of Venice it gives! It's all wrong! That's not like the REAL city at all! Don't expect to have a preview watching this movie 'cause you won't. I hate when people proudly think then know venice for watching this movie!

Lovely

Letters to Juliet and When in Rome are definitely the best.
