7 Food Documentaries That Will Make You Reexamine the Way You Eat ...

Whenever I feel as if I’m in need of a bit of weight loss, I like to psych myself up with some of these food documentaries. Even though I know that many of the foods I eat are bad for me, it somehow hits home a bit more firmly after watching one or two specials that show me just how bad of an effect things like processed foods can have on my body. Take a look at some of these food documentaries that will make you reexamine the way you eat.

Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com

This is one of my favorite food documentaries. It follows the results that are found when you cut out the foods that are bad for you by following a fruit and vegetable based diet. A man who is morbidly obese and suffering from numerous health issues decides to heal his body from the inside out and he shares all that he learned with you! Find out if his health is improved by the food he eats even after traditional medicines have failed.

Forks over Knives

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com

Forks over Knives explains the belief that returning to a more “natural” way of eating could help destroy the modern diseases and illnesses that we face. It focuses on cutting out the processed foods and replacing them with whole foods, such as veggies and fruits. It follows people who have been suffering with chronic illnesses and allows you to see their bodies' reactions to their new way of eating.

3

Food Inc

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com

This food documentary takes an in depth look at how science has taken the natural nutrition out of foods. Processes to make cheaper food more widely available to the ever growing population have resulted in less healthy foods. What was once an effort to feed every mouth has now become big business and a way to make money, which means more product but a lack of any real value to our bodies.

Super Size Me

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com

This is a food documentary that most of you have probably seen. It follows Morgan Spurlock, a healthy man, though a month of eating nothing but fast food. You can see the horrible effects that the over processed, highly fatty foods have on his body. He gains weight, his doctors keep track of everything he’s doing and you can watch the insane impact of fast food on this man’s system.

5

Vegucated

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com

Vegucated challenges three average people to try out the vegan lifestyle for several weeks while also learning the facts about how animals are raised and butchered. They learn that a meat-free life isn’t what they had thought it would be and is filled with tasty and delicious meals that leave them feeling full and satisfied. Veganism definitely isn’t for everyone (especially me…I love bacon too much), but watching this documentary did compel me to change what I eat most often.

Hungry for Change

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com

If you are struggling with weight loss and healthy eating, this movie will help give you the motivation as well as the necessary information to help you become better informed of the basics of nutrition. This one tends to have very mixed reviews; some think it is too basic, but others accept it for what it is… information to help get you on the right track. Not everyone has had the proper nutritional education (in fact, most haven’t) or they’ve simply forgotten the basics that they have learned. This is an awesome foundation if you are looking to gain the knowledge you need, or a great refresher for things you may have learned long ago.

The Future of Food

**On Amazon: **amazon.com

This is a great film for those who need more information about genetically engineered food. Educate yourself and know what you are putting into your body. There is a big difference between food that has grown naturally and food that has been created through scientific means. While it is remarkable in the sense that the process feeds so many people, it is completely changing our bodies and our land.

Most of these films can be found on Netflix or you can watch them for free online. It is important to keep yourself up to date on the way your food is made or grown. Everything you put into your body has an effect on it, so keep that in mind! What are your favorite food documentaries?
