Mean Girls

In Lindsay Lohan’s last respectable movie role, she really brought a likability to the character of Cady Heron. Formerly home-schooled by her zoologist parents, Cady is new to the social intricacies of high school. As if socializing in high school isn’t tough enough already, Cady is lost to the rules of the cliques and finds herself stuck between her arty friends on the fringe of high school and the ultra-popular Plastics who rule the school. It’s an honest yet funny look into high school life, with an all-star cast that includes comedic veteran Tina Fey. If you’re planning a night in, Mean Girls should definitely make the list of films to watch with your best friend.

2

Bridget Jones’s Diary

With Renée Zellweger as the adorable, insecure and convincingly English everywoman, Bridget Jones is a truly spot-on performance. Her character is so relatable, especially when she’s in monologue mode or in voice over while reading those diary entries of hers. From struggles with weight loss and personal vices of smoking, drinking and picking the wrong men, this awkwardly hilarious documentation of one woman’s strive for self-betterment is what makes this romantic comedy a best-friend's film favorite.

3

The Breakfast Club

This John Hughes classic is the epitome of the 80s. Five high school students from different colors of the social spectrum are forced into a Saturday detention and learn a little more about themselves and each other. It’s a hilarious homage to everything we loved about that decade... the style, the music, Molly Ringwald. So grab your bestie and the popcorn. Bonus points if you sing along to "Don’t You (Forget About Me)" as the credits roll.

4

Office Space

Is there anyone who can’t relate to this movie? If you hate your job, or your boss, or the excessive corporate demands at the expense of your sanity, then chances are, Office Space will give you more than a giggle. From the maddening morning commute to the office, to the work week just not ending because the corporate clown of a boss demands the weekends too, Peter (played with a certain dry humor precision by Ron Livingston) is quickly losing it. Office Space is far from a chick flick, but you and the best friend will have a relatable and riotous time without a doubt.

5

Magic Mike

Channing Tatum is Magic Mike, a male stripper sensation leading The Kings of Tampa. So... there’s a plot in there somewhere. But quite honestly, nobody cares. Ladies, come on. It’s a scantily-clad Channing Tatum grinding and gyrating all over the stage. Press the play button already!

Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids put a leading female cast into the spotlight for being star comediennes, and for good reason. It’s a funny testament to how far girlfriends will go for their best friends’ happiness, as Annie (Kristen Wiig) is bestowed with a maid of honor title, despite her own life being in shambles. But anything for her bestie, Lillian (Maya Rudolph). Hilarity ensues when heads collide over what will make for the perfect ceremony. In this funny and surprisingly touching Judd Apatow production, Bridesmaids is a great pick for a best friend movie night.

7

The Devil Wears Prada

The fashionably nonchalant Andy Sachs (adoringly played by Anne Hathaway) lands the an assistant job for fashion powerhouse editor, Miranda Priestly at Runway magazine. It’s the gateway to a whole other world, a world in publishing that Andy is so desperate to enter that she places herself at the whim of the merciless Editor in Chief at the detriment to the other aspects of her life. Meryl Streep is so cooly vicious as Miranda, it’s painful to watch Andy’s struggle. But the fashion! And the shoes, my god the shoes. The Devil Wears Prada is a visual delight with a message about identity, sacrifice and success. And it’s definite must-watch movie for best friends to share.

Having a simple night in with a bowl of popcorn and a few fun films is a refreshing change from loud bars or crowded restaurants. So have your best friend over for some films that you’ll both enjoy. What's on the must-watch list for you and your best friend?
