7 Great Superpower Themed TV Shows You Should Watch ...

Every time I watch superpower themed tv shows, I’m always intrigued and often wonder what it would be like to live in a universe like that. I especially like the ones where normal people leading normal lives, often experience life-changing experiences once they obtain said powers. It’s so interesting to see how vastly that could change one’s point of view of the world. Oh, how I wish that could actually happen. But, for now, watching these superpower themed tv shows, immersing myself in their worlds and living vicariously, will have to do!

Heroes

I wish Heroes didn’t end the way it did. The first season was breathtakingly amazing which solidified it as one my favorite superpower themed tv shows of all time. There will always be a special place in my heart for it. I was absolutely heartbroken that it couldn’t end in 2010 on a high note. But, I won’t give away the ending! Anyway, Heroes, which first aired in the fall of 2006 was a show about humans who gained extraordinary powers after a freak eclipse of the sun. Though the other seasons don’t quite live up to the first, it’s still a series I’d recommend to anyone. It’s an entertaining show! Watch it on Hulu!

2

Misfits

Though Misfits has undergone a series of cast member changes, the show is truly a gem. It’s a British series which follows a group of young delinquents doing community service, when a freak storm changes their lives and give them superpowers. The great thing about this show is that it takes a down to earth approach to powers, that isn’t all about saving the world. Plus, the characters seem real, and all have pretty bad potty mouths, which are quite candid and hilarious. I will forever love the original cast of 2009. You can catch this show on Hulu!

3

Alphas

Alphas was a series on the Syfy channel about a group of humans with enhanced abilities which premiered in 2011, They are recruited by Dr. Rosen who helps them understand and hone their abilities, and they help solve puzzling crimes. Although this series only had 2 seasons, it was very interesting to see the way each of the character’s powers lend to solving cases. Watch Alphas on Hulu now!

4

No Ordinary Family

No Ordinary Family got cut short after only one season, but I really can’t put a finger on why. It was quite a decent show, with an interesting and charming family who gain abilities and can’t quite figure out what to do with them at first. Though, we didn’t get to see much of it, I enjoyed seeing superpowers done from the family aspect. Seems like they took a cue from The Incredibles, which was great. You can watch episodes on Hulu!

5

Smallville

I have to admit, that when this show first premiered I had the hugest crush on Tom Welling. Anyway, Smallville had a solid ten year run from 2001-2011! It followed the life of young Clark Kent who juggled the honing of his alien powers and teenage life in the town called Smallville. With such an amazing run and a great cast, Smallville made itself a staple in pop culture that will surely be missed. You can find DVDs of Smallville at stores like Best Buy, Target and Walmart.

The 4400

I didn’t even know The 4400 existed until I started to compile this list. It seems like a very interesting show. It premiered in 2004 and lasted until 2007. It’s about a sudden appearance of 4400 missing people who return to Earth in one day. Each missing person ( although they might have been gone for years or just a few months) look exactly the same as when they were abducted and have no recollection of their previous lives. Some of the returned missing people have special abilities too. It’s mystery, intrigue and excitement all wrapped into one. I can't wait to watch this one! Check it out on Netflix!

7

The Incredible Hulk

There was no way I could end this list without adding a true superhero of some sort! The Incredible Hulk, which had an impressive run from 1978-1982, was a great depiction of the comic. It was about a scientist, Bruce Banner, who had conducted an experiment using Gamma Radiation that turned him into a giant, green monster when he was under emotional turbulence or angry. The hulk is one of my favorite characters and the show did a wonderful job of portraying it. You can catch it on Hulu now!

Superpower themed tv shows are definitely one of my favorite genres because it takes you out of ordinary life. It’s nice to think that one day telekinesis will be a real thing. ( I’m hopeful) These shows are all great examples of that. I hope you’ll check some of them out! Are there any superpower themed tv shows you like? Have you watched any of these?
