7 Heart Racing Suspense Thrillers to Watch on a Rainy Day ...

I have to admit that heart racing suspense thrillers are definitely my favorite movie genre. I love the mystery, the intrigue, the little clues they leave you to piece it all together at the end, and of course, the twist. The twist at the end is the best part; it leaves you with your mouth hung open in surprise or will have you saying, “Oh, I knew it!” when what you thought was going to happen, did. It just takes you along for a ride. So, there’s few things better to do than checking out this list of heart racing suspense thrillers that’ll keep you on your toes on a rainy day!

Se7en

I love Brad Pitt and he’s starred in a number of heart racing suspense thrillers that I’m a big fan of. This includes the wonderful film, Se7en! Se7en is a film about two detectives, who Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt play, who try to solve a series of crimes that a killer commits modeled after the 7 deadly sins. With each murder, it’s more bizarre, and intense. Along the ride there are several twists to keep you interested! It’s a classic!

Shutter Island

Set in the mid '50s, Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Teddy Daniels, a US Marshall. He sets out to investigate a mental hospital on Shutter Island, called Ashecliffe, where he believes a murderer is hiding out, and heinous crimes committed by the hospital are taking place. Throughout the movie, we see Teddy doubt and risk everything to solve the case. But neither we (the audience) nor Teddy can figure out what the truth really is until the very end. Sounds pretty interesting huh? It’s one of my favorite movies! If you get a chance, definitely check it out!

The Usual Suspects

The Usual Suspects is an awesome movie, narrated by Kevin Spacey who plays a gimp, about 5 criminals who did a jewelry heist job that went horribly wrong. The lone survivor, The Gimp, tells the detectives of their plans and everything that ensued. Throughout the ride, we meet a lot of different characters who add suspense to the movie, leading up to one of the biggest twists in movie history. Some say it even beats out the twist in The Sixth Sense! The movie is so popular it was even spoofed in the horror comedy Scary Movie.

Fight Club

Flight Club is my favorite movie of all time, and I don’t say that lightly! It’s so great because the main character, played by Edward Norton, doesn't even have a name! Riddled with insomnia, and a mundane life, he meets Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt). Tyler Durden changes his life, which leads to a series of actions that cause an underground Fight Club to be born. Though, I can’t tell you much, because the first rule of fight club is that you do not talk about fight club. If you’re clever enough, you might even be able to figure out the amazing twist at the end. It’s really a great film to get your heart racing!

Black Swan

Black Swan has won so many awards for the outstanding performances of the actors. Natalie Portman did an amazing job as Nina, a ballet dancer with a smothering mother, and a struggle to fit the description of both the black swan and the white swan in her ballet company’s production of Swan Lake. Lily, played by Mila Kunis, is her competition, and their relationship develops into a weird friendship/rivalry. It’s amazing to see Nina’s struggle with the innocent side and dark side of her. In the end, the audience is left wowed at the twist that ensues. It’s a terrific film and really shows the talent of everybody involved in the movie. Check it out, if you haven’t already!

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Inception

Inception really is a mind-boggling movie. It has so many great actors in it too, like, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, and Ken Watanabe. And, I’m a huge fan of all of them! Anyway, the movie is set in the world of dreams, where Cobb (Leo) and his team set out to implant an idea-- which is called inception-- inside the mind of a young business owner who has the potential to destroy his competition. We see the characters travel through three levels of dreams, all the while hoping that they are successful, and don’t end up stuck eternally. It’s a thrill ride the whole way. You’ll be left wondering what the reality is at the end. It’s really amazing.

7

The Sixth Sense

The Sixth Sense has been spoofed so many times that people may not even feel the need to actually see the movie! But, don’t let that deter you! It’s really amazing. Though I’m not much of an M. Night Shyamalan fan, he really made a classic with this one! It’s about a young boy (Haley Joel Osment) who can talk to ghosts of people who don’t realize that they’re dead. Crowe (Bruce Willis) is a child psychologist who seeks to help the boy with his problems. When you’re watching this, you definitely won’t expect what happens towards the end of the movie. I was shocked. And, though it’s been out for many years, I still revisit the movie just to experience the twist once more. It was such a brilliant idea. I’m sure it’ll keep you entertained!

Suspense thrillers are great because it’s not just mindless action. The director takes you on a journey to see if the characters can fix their problems with all of the twists along the way. It’s definitely great to watch heart racing suspense thrillers on a rainy day to really enjoy them! What are your favorite suspense thrillers?
