Need a Good Cry? 7 RomComs You'll Need Tissues to Get through ...

If you know me at all, you know that I am a romantic comedy aficionado. You name it, and I have seen it, and I can also provide you with an in-depth analysis of why or why not I liked it. While I consider romantic comedies movies that make me laugh, sometimes we all just want to watch a romantic comedy that will make us cry. If you’re currently looking for your next movie for those days that you’re looking to have a cry session, this list has everything you could ever want. (And, spoiler alert: a lot of these options are on Netflix, making your next movie night even easier!)

1

Stuck in Love

This movie has a lot of romance and a lot of comedy, but most of all, it’s a movie about family. Because of that, there are a lot of tears to be had. It’s not a particularly sad movie, but it will make you think, and some tears will probably be shed. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

2

Obvious Child

I’m not sure if I cried during Obvious Child. It is darker than your typical romantic comedy, but it was a feel-good movie overall. If you’re looking for a movie that will make you cry but won’t be too emotionally draining, this is definitely a movie you should check out.

3

Love, Rosie

If you’ve read the book this movie is based on, you understand just why it’s so tear-inducing. It’s just such a real story. Two best friends grow up and apart and can just never get the timing right for their love story. There are other, smaller plotlines that will probably leave you in tears as well, but this real story about best friends who want to be more is sure to leave you dry heaving by the end of it.

4

The Giant Mechanical Man

Maybe it’s simply because this movie was filmed in home state (Michigan) that it holds such a special place in my heart. However, this is a really beautiful movie about Danny Castellano from The Mindy Project and Pam Beesley from The Office fall in love. (I kid, I kid.) At its core, it’s about figuring out who you are when you’re an adult. So often, we see movies where high school seniors are trying to figure out what they want in life. In reality, no matter our age, we’re all still trying to figure it out, and this movie is a great representation of that. It might hit close to home, which is why tears may flow.

5

Notting Hill

Julia Roberts gets a lot of criticism for this role, but it’s probably one of my favorite characters she’s ever played. She’s smart, successful, and won’t let anyone walk all over her. Plus, seeing Hugh Grant in such an innocent role is always a plus. This love story is so quietly beautiful that is sure to make you cry.

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Good Will Hunting

Although some may argue that this movie isn’t a romantic comedy, I think that at its core it is. Besides the fact that it’s just a stunning movie, and that alone will probably make you cry, but watching Robin Williams in one of his greatest roles may also evoke some tears in you.

7

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

I have a hard time considering this movie a romantic comedy because it is so sad, and I think a lot of people would agree with me. If you’re looking to really just cry your eyes out for an hour or two, this is the movie that will make you lose it.
