7 Reasons Why I Still Love 'Friends' ...

Friends, the show that took the world by storm, about six single 20 something friends living in New York, still survives on hundreds and hundreds of reruns. Very often two to three channels at a time broadcast Friends episodes and even though we’ve seen them all, we still love to watch it. Here are 7 reasons why I still love Friends.

1

The Characters Are Still Endearing

All the characters are still endlessly endearing. They haven’t become lame with time or irrelevant. Ross is still the adorable nerd and Monica is still the obsessive clean freak. Phoebe is as quirky as ever while Rachel is the perfect babe. Chandler and Joey retain their unique qualities so no matter how many years have passed since it was first aired, the show is still very much on the money.

2

The Women Dress Really Well

I love waiting to see what the women are going to wear. Some episodes I am able to recall the outfits more than the story line. While it was hugely unrealistic that young people of their age and profession could afford their endless wardrobe, it was fun nonetheless and a good reason to watch the reruns.

3

Phoebe’s Songs Are Still Hilarious

Phoebe and her crazy songs were like the secret ingredient in this mixing pot. We all remember ‘Smelly Cat’ but most can’t remember her other contributions. That’s why watching the reruns is such a treat. Every once in a while we get a chance to listen to one of Phoebe’s masterpieces and they are priceless.

4

The Occasional Flashbacks to Monica’s Fat Days

I love the occasional flashbacks to Monica’s fat days, Chandler and Ross’s college days and Rachel’s big nose days. They are really hilarious and all the characters play their teenage parts really well. The end sequence with Monica dancing is always well done and down right funny no matter how many times you see it.

5

The Opening Sequence

The opening sequence song ‘I’ll be there for you’ is definitely one of the most recognizable tunes of the last 20 years. One of the best things about the reruns is that we get to see the opening sequence and listen the song, both of which brings back oodles of memories for most of us.

The Jokes Are Actually Not Bad

Even if you’re watching a show you’ve seen three of four times before, you will still find yourself guffawing at some of the jokes. That’s because the jokes are actually quite good. They have stood the test of time and continue to entertain hordes of audiences all over the world.

7

Ross and Rachel – the Ultimate Couple

For many, one of the main reasons Friends still survives is Ross and Rachel. They are the ultimate couple and we all know they are best suited for each other. We love to watch them muddle through their lives, and we know through it all, they are going to get back together.

Friends is such an enduring show that some of us actually feel that we are part of the group. We know them so well and even though they are long gone, we still love to watch the episodes whenever we get the chance.
