The other day, the Better Half and I were talking about which funny movies ranked as comedies to watch before you die. We have entirely different tastes, so the discussion ended up as a draw, but it gave me a great idea for a post! I love comedies – laughing makes you feel so much better, even if you're having a really awful day. As you'll see, there are some time-tested classics on this list, as well as some new but still uproariously funny movies. Check out this list of comedies to watch before you die, and make sure you add them to your movie bucket list!

1 Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Price: $6.49 at amazon.com
If I had my way, every Monty Python movie would be on here, but without question, Monty Python and the Holy Grail is their funniest. Of course, The Meaning of Life is also a great comedy to watch before you die, because it's decidedly apt. Between that movie and this one, MP can give you an idea about what comes next! Also: Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries.
Price: $9.98 at amazon.com
Granted, Heathers is a dark comedy, but it still counts. Why should you see this one before you die? Because it puts the whole clique thing into perspective. Basically, it lets you know you should be nice to everyone … or else Christian Slater will come and kill you. Think about it – he doesn't have anything better to do these days. Also, who doesn't want to see Shannen Doherty's character bite it?
Price: $7.49 at amazon.com
I can't think of anything better than watching Michael Cera be awkward. I'm not even being sarcastic, that's the primary reason I watch his movies. Besides, this is the flick that introduced McLovin'. For that reason at least, it should be watched and thus immortalized by as many people as possible.
4 Groundhog Day
Price: $2.79 at amazon.com
Along with films like Caddyshack, this is classic Bill Murray, who seems to have a knack for starring in comedies to watch before you die. Just to save space, you should also see Ghostbusters 1 and 2, and the Royal Tenenbaums. But this one … there's just something darkly awesome about this one. It once gave me deja-vu nightmares.
5 Clerks II
Price: $9.21 at amazon.com
Don't get me wrong, I love the original Clerks – although with almost everything else Kevin Smith has ever done. The sequel, though … I resisted seeing it forever, and when the BH finally cajoled me into watching it, I laughed for pretty much the whole length of the movie. It's not nearly as artsy as the original, but it is as relevant if you look underneath, plus it's supremely chuckalicious.
6 Napoleon Dynamite
Price: $14.30 at amazon.com
This became a classic in an instant. So many people were raving about it that I dug in my heels and refused to see it for a long time. When I finally caught it on one of the bajillion movie channels you can find on cable now, I again didn't stop giggling. It's screwball, but man. Didn't we all feel like that in high school at least once?
7 Coming to America
Price: $5.49 at amazon.com
I'll be honest, I love a ton of Eddie Murphy's movies. Like, I can't pass up watching Daddy Daycare whenever I see it on TV. But this was Eddie at his finest, before taking over entire movies ala The Nutty Professor. He plays multiple characters in this, but it adds to the story, and it's packed full of awesome sauce in the bargain.
8 Little Miss Sunshine
Price: $11.63 at amazon.com
This movie … was just awful – which is why it's definitely a comedy to watch before you die. I don't mean the movie itself was bad, I mean it was one of those darkly uncomfortable comedies that makes you feel a little embarrassed during the characters' worst moments. I love movies like that!
9 Waiting ...
Price: $7.99 at amazon.com
I just … I really love this movie. It's incredibly gross, but it's frankly the perfect movie for the hipster generation. All those dry, sarcastic comebacks and quips. Just, no one on Earth will ever be able to do it as effortlessly as Ryan Reynolds. Hear that, hipster kids? However, avoid that awful sequel at all costs.
Of course, these aren't the only comedies to watch before you die, but by and large, they're the ones that always brighten up my day. If you've got any other suggestions, I'd be delighted to hear them. What funny flicks do you think should be on this list?
