Now, more than ever, there are so many comedy TV shows to watch. But at times of boredom or sorrow it's a genuinely good laugh that we all desperately need. The past few years has brought us a lot of shows about crime-solving, vampires or killing the living dead, but what we always turn to is comedy. Below are 10 comedy TV shows (in no special order) everyone will love! Get your laugh on!
1. The Big Bang Theory
Four nerds and a popular girl make some of the funniest TV America has ever seen. In this show, Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons) is the nerd you’re there to watch. His incredible quirkiness and lack of social skills combined with the awkward group dynamic makes some of the biggest laughs you’ll ever have. The Big Bang Theory is definitely a weekly must-watch and one of the top shows on my list of comedy TV shows to watch. BAZINGA!
2. How I Met Your Mother
This show will run for eight seasons as Ted tells his children how he met their mother. Loosely based off Friends, each of the 5 main characters follow a certain stereotype and someone you can relate with. In this show, Barney Stinson (played by Neil Patrick Harris) is the guy you’re watching. His hard-core womanizing paired with Ted’s firm believe in monogamy creates a hilarious dynamic definitely worth watching.
3. Modern Family
Ah yes, the show that attempts to portray the days of a family in the 21st century. You’ve got the nagging mom, the fun dad, the grandpa with the young foreign wife, the gay couple and a bunch of kids always getting the way. This perfectly dysfunctional family is absolutely hilarious and gay couple will have you falling out of your chair laughing.
4. Cougar Town
This show could not have a more misleading title, which is why you might have not heard of it. Starring Courtney Cox, this PG show is about how a bunch of adults over think, make up problems in their heads and then attempt to solve them whilst drinking gallons of wine. Every character has their own little quirk and together they make a hilarious team. A must-watch comedy TV show everyone will love.
Less of a comedy and more of a lift-me-up type of show, Glee caters to all the teenagers out there that don't feel like they fit. Glee unites all the misfits together through spectacular shows of song and dance. This after school show choir club overcomes adversity by never giving up and always staying true to themselves. Very inspirational, Glee is a TV show everyone will love, and certainly one to watch with the whole family.
6. Happy Endings
Also based off Friends, 6 best friends hang around at the bar all day discussing their live issues (which aren’t nearly as dramatic as they make them out to be). This show depicts the fun times and the struggles of men and women in the early 30s living in a metropolitan, something most viewers can easily relate to. The relationship dynamic and strong personalities make this show a new and upcoming show on the list of comedy TV shows everyone will love.
7. New Girl
Starring Zooey Deschanel, this show is about the good and bad times of Jess (the new girl) as she deals with a breakup and moves in with 3 male roommates. With very few main characters, this new show is all about Jess’ quirkiness, Nick’s bad decisions and Schmidt’s douchebagery. Although with only one season, this show is a must-watch… especially for Schmidt.
8. 2 Broke Girls
Definitely the funniest show I have ever seen, this new comedy is about the journey two waitresses go on to earn enough money for their own cupcake shop. Max runs this show with her Brooklyn sass and ability to say anything hilarious and witty at the drop of a hat. Paired with Caroline, (former billionaire who lost her fortune) the two make a duo that will leave you rolling on the floor with laughter.
9. Don’t Trust the B**** in Apartment 23
There’s not a lot of content in this show, but if you’re looking for a good laugh about how a regular girl interacts with her bi*ch roommate, this is the show for you! A crazy girl verging on the edge of psychopathic rents her New York apartment to a mid-east nobody and the two just have the time of their lives. It’s a new show and you should go check it out!
Yes it’s been over since 2004, and yes it’s so old your parents probably watched it, but an article about comedy TV could not end without mentioning Friends. The mother of almost all comedy television, this show puts 6 very different people in a coffee shop and we watch how each and every one of them develop and create live long bonds with each other. If you’ve never watched friends, I suggest you purchase the box set and clear out a weekend for the best comedy TV show you will ever watch.
And that’s it, that’s the list! Which of these hilarious shows do you watch? Which one is your favorite? Are there any other shows you’d like to add to the list? Share away!
