In Half Nelson, a teacher who suffers from a drug addiction unexpectedly forges a friendship with his student after his secret is revealed. This is one of my favorite films by this brilliant actor because of the way it tackles these tough issues.

Despite its extremely controversial plot, the film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

Nominated for an Academy Award, this film follows two people's inevitably doomed relationship from beginning to end. Blue Valentine displays Ryan Gosling's impressive acting range. Watching the marriage between Gosling and Michelle Williams' characters fall apart is truly heart-wrenching.

As Lars Lindstrom, a socially awkward man who purchases a sex doll, Ryan Gosling manages to wow audiences. I must admit that I was a bit skeptical when I first heard of the premise. However, after watching the film, it is plain to see that this unconventional movie is worth watching if not for his acting ability alone.

While this may be a biased opinion, I truly feel that each role that Ryan Gosling has embodied has been incredibly intricate and interesting; it's no surprise that many of the films that he has starred in are critically acclaimed.
