9 Fabulous Julia Roberts Movies ...

From “Pretty Woman” to “Eat Pray Love,” Julia Roberts movies are always great films to watch time and time again. She makes us laugh, cry, or even want to get romantic with our significant other. Roberts plays inspiring characters that she can be proud of, and off screen she portrays a woman we would all want to be friends with. There are so many wonderful Julia Roberts movies that I wish I could include them all on my list, but for now I’ll just share a few my favorites. Let’s see if your top picks made the list...

Steel Magnolias...

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com This may not be a “Julia Roberts” movie per se, since she has more of an ensemble role than a starring one. However, her character Shelby is one we all connect with no matter how big her part is. “Steel Magnolias” is about friendship, family, and the things women gossip about while getting their hair done! These six amazing women may come from different upbringings, have different beliefs and personalities, but they know how to pull together in times of need. Before her big break in “Pretty Woman,” Roberts shows the audience and Hollywood that she is a contender and can hold her own among this big cast that includes Sally Field as her mother, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, and Daryl Hannah.

Pretty Woman

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com From the soft spoken Shelby in “Steel Magnolias” to the sexy, loud mouth, street walker turned princess in “Pretty Woman,” Roberts was out to make a name for herself. If you didn’t know who she was before this movie, you were certainly going to remember her after it. It’s no wonder Richard Gere and Roberts reunited for “Runaway Bride” almost ten years later; the chemistry between them leaves the audience dreaming of their own Beverly Hills knight who will kick his friend’s ass for you!

3

My Best Friend’s Wedding

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com Like Roberts' character Julianne, many of us have been in the position where we fell in love with our best friend who knew nothing about our feelings. In “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” Roberts is sassy, playful, and witty. Every hit movie she produces keeps getting better and shows us different sides of Roberts we haven’t seen before. Who do you think would win actor Dermot Mulroney’s heart in real life: Julia Roberts or Cameron Diaz, who plays the fiance Roberts’ character is trying to push out of the picture?!

4

Stepmom

In this heartwarming family movie, you don’t know whether to root for Roberts’ character Isabel, who is the “Stepmom,” or Susan Sarandon, who plays the mom/ex-wife. On the one hand you want to stand behind the step-mom because she’s hip and cool and you feel bad for her when the kids don’t like her. However, on the other hand, you want to hate her because the mom feels like she is losing her kids and when they aren’t spending time with her, they’re with this new “mom,” so to speak. Both Roberts and Sarandon make you feel and believe that this torn and confusing relationship the family is going through is real. So, if this is a Roberts film you haven’t seen yet, be sure to grab a box of tissues when you rent it!

5

Notting Hill

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com “I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her,” states Anna Scott aka Julia Roberts! That’s all any woman really wants, someone to love her. However, that can be a bit difficult when you’re the most famous actress in the world. “Notting Hill” is a quirky, romantic love story that gives us a behind the scenes look at what it must be like when an average Joe tries to date a celebrity. Hugh Grant plays William, who is just a bookstore owner in England, but all of that changes when actress Anna Scott walks in. Roberts shows us the sweet charm and chemistry we remember from “Pretty Woman” and has us cheering for another unlikely relationship.

Erin Brockovich

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com If you’ve read my “Movies to Watch with Your Mom” or “Amazing Movie Moms” posts, then you know how much I love Roberts in “Erin Brockovich.” Her role in this film takes you back to “Pretty Woman” in how she really transforms herself into the characters so the audience sees them and feels what they are feeling and doesn’t just see Julia Roberts playing a character. She takes us into their world, one that we may not be familiar with, and makes it believable. Yes, this is based on a true story, however, without Roberts as Erin, you might not have believed that this crazy story was real!

7

Mona Lisa Smile

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com If I were to learn a life lesson and be inspired to further my education and career instead of just being a housewife in the 1950s, I would want it to be from a professor like Katherine Watson in “Mona Lisa Smile.” You may look at this role and think, “How did Roberts go from Erin Brockovich to this?” but if you look deeper, you can see that both are strong, powerful characters who just want others to believe in them and believe in their opinion.

8

Closer

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com The cast in this film really can’t get much better, especially when you have incredible actresses like Roberts and Natalie Portman. Put these amazing ladies together with Jude Law and Clive Owen, and you have a sexy yet messy love affair going on! This is another Roberts movie like “Stepmom,” where you aren’t quite sure whom to root for. Do you believe in the affair of Anna (Roberts) and Dan (Law) or do you want Alice (Portman) to be with Dan, or should she go with Anna’s guy Larry (Owen) to make things even?

9

Eat Pray Love

**On iTunes: **itunes.apple.com I really fell in love with Elizabeth Gilbert’s book and Roberts made me fall in love with “Eat Pray Love” the movie. Yes, a movie is never exactly like a book, but it was nice to see some of it come to life. Plus, Roberts was the perfect actress to portray Gilbert, so that helped with the book to film connection. It’s another great character that you can relate to and feel what she is going through. Have you read the book? How did it compare to the film for you?

Have I left out any amazing Julia Roberts movies that are on your top list? All of her movies are pretty amazing, I hope I did her justice!
