9 Inspirational Movies for Girls Who Love to Cook and Eat ...

Every few years, Hollywood dishes out movies about food (or at least with food as an intricate part of the story). And each time I watch any of these movies, I want to reach into the screen and grab myself a bite of the delicious looking treats I see. And because food is yummier when you share it, I’ve listed 9 films (in no particular order) about food that I guarantee will make you super hungry (just as they make me).

1

Chef (2014)

local food, produce, market, food, grocery store,

A disgruntled chef who gets fired from his job decides to cook the food he loves. And boy, does he cook! If this movie doesn’t make you super hungry, I don’t know what will. Jon Favreau, Sofia Vergara, Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson and Dustin Hoffman all come together in this absolute masterpiece!

2

Waitress (2007)

cook, dish, meal, food, business,

A young waitress (Keri Russell) in a bad marriage finds herself pregnant. So she runs away to a new place and finds herself seriously attracted to her hot doctor (Nathan Fillion). Oh, and did I mention that she’s a genius with dessert pies? Yummeh!

3

Julie & Julia (2009)

meal, cook, dish, food, cooking,

Based on two true stories, this award-winning film tells of Julie Powell, a government worker from New York who takes it upon herself to cook and blog about all the recipes from Mastering the Art of French Cooking by Julia Child. At the same time, we see the story of Julia Child and her experiences in France that led to her writing her bestselling cookbook. The movie is all about food. Double the food actually because two stories. So, so delicious. If you haven’t already watched it, please do now!

4

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009)

cartoon, gadget, mobile device, illustration,

Have you ever dreamed of it raining food? It’s exactly what happens in this fun movie, albeit with a spaghetti and meatballs tornado that threatens to destroy the world at the end. But does it? Watch this enjoyable, food filled movie to find out!

5

Babette’s Feast (1987)

meal, dinner, lunch, community, supper,

An award-winning film from Denmark, Babette’s Feast is set in the 19th century and is the story of how one woman and her cooking can change even the most conservative and rigid thinking and change it into something more spiritual. This is one foreign film that should be on your must-watch movies list.

6

Ratatouille (2007)

person, cook, professional, profession, food,

This is a truly delightful movie and a definite watch for the whole family. Full of food and fun, Ratatouille is the tale of Remy, a rat with a penchant and passion for food and the dream of becoming a chef. I absolutely love this movie and so will you!

7

Tortilla Soup (2001)

,

A remake of Ang Lee’s Eat Drink Man Woman, Tortilla Soup is a comedy-drama that has family at the heart of it. It’s the story of three sisters living at home with their father, who loves to cook elaborate meals for his family and friends. As the film unfolds, the three women find themselves and what they want from life even as they remain anchored at home with their father and his cooking.

8

Chocolat (2000)

person, human action, facial expression, woman, man,

A traditional and conservative village in France has new residents in Vianne and her daughter, who open up a chocolate shop, much to the anger of their mayor. Vianne has the talent of guessing just what chocolate her customers will enjoy and soon the small shop is proving too much of a temptation for all the residents. A very enjoyable movie, this.

9

No Reservations (2007)

person, meal, airline, professional, profession,

Kate is the talented head chef of a busy restaurant and her life is suddenly thrown into a spiral when she turns guardian for her orphaned niece. With no idea how to handle the troubled child, she is helped by the brilliant and handsome chef Nick, who comes in to share her workload. Of course, a romance blossoms amidst all the food and that’s what makes this movie an enjoyable one.

Movies about food are always fun to watch. And these 9 movies have proven to be just the same. Except that I find myself standing in the kitchen cooking up a treat each time I watch any of them – so hungry they make me! Are there any other movies that do the same for you?
