7 Hottest Nude Movie Scenes ...

There was once a time when a nude scene in a movie would get it an X rating, and people felt compelled to sneak into theatres to actually watch such risky flicks. These days, nudity is just a matter of course – as are sex scenes, but I'm not talking about those just yet. Nudity in film doesn't necessarily have to involve sex at all – although it sometimes does, as you shall see. However, in making a list of the hottest nude movie scenes, I was looking more for sensuality, so some of them don't involve sex … and some of them do.

1. Halle Berry in Monster's Ball

This movie caused a lot of controversy, as did Halle Berry especially. There were a lot of nude scenes and a lot of sex scenes, but the initial collision between Berry's Leticia and Billy Bob Thorton's Hank is definitely one of the hottest nude movie scenes ever. It helped win Ms. Berry a well deserved Oscar, but the reason I like it is the rawness. It's painful to watch, because it's heartbreaking. It's not about the sex to me; it's more about the fact that two desperate, desperately wounded people are finally connecting with someone. Their union is like a physical manifestation of their grief.

2. Rosario Dawson in Alexander

I love Rosario Dawson. I did not love Alexander. I expected so much from the movie, but it just fell short of the mark in so many ways. Not, however, with Rosario. I totally believed her to be the most beautiful woman in the world, and I love how her encounter here with Colin Farrell goes from completely violent to rather sweet.

3. Anne Hathaway in Love and Other Drugs

Anne Hathaway is naked a lot in this movie. Her scenes make up some of the hottest nude movie scenes ever. Even given her topless scenes and the hot monkey kitchen sex she shares with Mr. Jake Gyllenhaal, there's something so innocent and fresh about her nudity. And that's coming from someone who is not Anne's biggest fan.

4. Naomi Watts and Laura Harring in Mulholland Drive

This movie is what I'm talking about when I say nudity can be sensual, although the scene in question between these two women comprises a sex scene as well. Since I couldn't really put in anything about my beloved Jack and Ennis, being that they were never really naked, I'll settle for my second favorite same-sex scene. I actually think this is beautiful. The movie itself is kind of whacked out, but the tenderness, intimacy, and passion in this scene are incredibly steamy.

5. Kate Winslet in Titanic

There is a scene in Titanic, however, that is the epitome of sensuality. I'm not talking about the famous Titanic sex scene, with the sweaty palm and the car and all. I mean the drawing scene, where a lush Kate Winslet, as Rose, was not afraid to show her curves, and looked absolutely stunning. This is one of my favorite scenes out of a movie, ever, and it still gives me butterflies in my stomach!

6. Angelina Jolie in Gia

Angelina Jolie is hot. I couldn't decide whether to highlight one poignant scene in Gia, where the supermodel is trying to stop her lover from leaving her, or the scene from Wanted, where you may only see her backside, but it's still exquisite. I settled on this film and scene because there's something so vulnerable about it. Sometimes this kind of softness and vulnerability makes for the hottest nude movie scenes.

7. Maggie Gyllenhaal in Secretary

This movie was just … wow. I'm not even a huge fan of Jake's sister, but I loved this film – partly because I adore James Spader, and partly because it was just hot, yet it was done tastefully. The nude scene I'm talking about here is, of course, that infamous bath scene, which shows the audience a little bit of incomparable tenderness in the midst of sexual domination.

So as you can see, the hottest nude movie scenes don't always have to do with sex. The two aren't mutually exclusive, but neither are they inexorably inclined. My question is, what do you think about the growing popularity of nudity in films?
