Everyone knows that there have been movie stars that crossed over to TV. There are a lot of actors that I wasn’t aware of though! I wonder what attracts movie stars to make the switch to TV when they get more recognition in movies. Well, I may never know the answer to that question, but I do know of seven movie stars that crossed over to TV.
1. Maggie Smith
I don’t know how I forgot that Maggie Smith is on TV! I don’t watch “Downton Abbey” (even though I totally should!) and so I forgot that she was on a TV show until a friend reminded me. I love Maggie Smith! Smith is a really talented actress and is so recognizable to a wide range of people. I’m not sure if it is true, but I bet that Maggie Smith being on “Downton Abbey” has something to do with its success. She's definitely one of the most successful movie stars that crossed over to TV.
2. Kiefer Sutherland
I completely forgot that Kiefer Sutherland was ever in movies! To be quite honest, I don’t even remember him before he was in “24.” That probably means that he has been really successful in his switch from movies to TV because there are a lot of people that will always remember him for his part in “24.” He also is in his second season of “Touch” now (which is an amazing show). He’s also a successful movie star that crossed over to TV.
3. Kevin Bacon
I feel like Kevin Bacon is someone that has a really well-known name, but whose work isn’t necessarily well known. Other than “Footloose” I don’t really know him from anything (don’t yell at me Kevin Bacon fans!), but now he’s on a new show called “The Following” and he’s amazing. If his new show keeps up at the pace it’s going, there won’t be any need to return to movies!
4. Alec Baldwin
Alec Baldwin was never my favorite actor, but he’s really funny on “30 Rock.” I don’t watch the show, but when I did watch a few episodes I’m pretty sure he was one of my favorite parts. As an actor he’s pretty good and has had a pretty good career. I wonder what made him make the switch to TV from movies. While it hasn’t been too successful for some of the people on this list, Alec Baldwin definitely succeeded in crossing over.
5. Zooey Deschanel
Zooey is my favorite person on this list, but she’s probably one of the least known also. She was in a lot of movies such as “Elf,” “Yes Man,” and “(500) Days of Summer” before starring in “New Girl.” Her show is really successful, which I never doubted, and it seems like this was a good switch for her to make. I don’t know about anyone else, but I love seeing her on TV every week! Then again, I’m a huge fan.
6. Christina Ricci
I love Christina Ricci! She is just so awesome, I can’t even explain it. I’m not sure why I don’t even remember her being in movies or on TV and yet I love her. Her show, PanAm, didn’t last very long at all and wasn’t that good. I’m not sure why I love her, but she’s a pretty good actress! I love that she’s made the switch over to TV and I hope that she finds another way to come back to television.
7. Patrick Wilson
I didn’t even know that Patrick Wilson was in movies! I didn’t actually know he was in anything other than “A Gifted Man.” Unfortunately, that show didn’t last long even though I loved it! Apparently, Patrick Wilson was in a few things and yet I had never even heard of him. I don’t watch that many movies so maybe that’s why, but either way he is definitely an actor who tried to make the switch from movies to TV.
There are so many actors that try to make the switch from movies to TV! Some of them aren’t as successful as others, but since I love TV so much I like when people attempt to be successful in both media. Which one of these actors is your favorite? Can you think of any other actors that have made the switch?
