Valentine's Day Movies can make the day more special … or less so, depending on your point of view. For that reason, I went looking for a wide array of movies about Valentine's Day. Some of them are sweet and romantic, ideal for watching with your particular Valentine. Others are … well, they're not so sweet and romantic. Some of them showcase the darker side of Valentine's Day, so if you're single or just against the holiday on general principle, then you'll definitely enjoy them. Either way, I hope you'll agree that these are the best Valentine's Day movies currently available!
1. Valentine's Day
This is probably the pinnacle of all Valentine's Day movies. Is it a great film? That … depends on perspective, actually! But in terms of the plot, it's full of Valentine's Day goodness. There are plenty of ups and downs between the many, many characters, of course, but there are some definite inspirations in there, too.
2. Sleepless in Seattle
On the surface, this might not seem like a movie about Valentine's Day, and on the surface, that's true. Don't get me wrong, it's sweet as can be, it epitomizes the idea of what Valentine's Day is supposed to be about. However, it's also a holiday themed movie. After all, the most climactic scene takes place on Valentine's Day. What's more romantic than seeing Sam and Annie finally get together?
3. I Hate Valentine's Day
This post would hardly be fair if I didn't include some Valentine's Day movies that showcase the other side. This is a really cute film. If you liked My Big Fat Greek Wedding, you'll love this one – especially since it stars many of the same people, and it's another Nia Vardalos romp. John Corbett stars her love interest again, and her character perfectly showcases why so many people have a love/hate relationship with the holiday.
4. My Bloody Valentine
If you're going to be watching horror movies for Valentine's Day, there's none better than this one. Mind you, I'm talking about the original one, not the remake. No, if you're looking to, ahem, lose your heart on Valentine's Day, then you definitely need to take a visit to Valentine Bluffs.
There are actually a lot of Valentine's Day movies focused on horror – surprise, surprise. This one stars Denise Richards, and it's actually surprisingly good. I mean, for a Valentine's Day horror movie. How would you feel if you got a Valentine from a secret admirer, only to find out that it's actually a death threat?
6. The Notebook
If you're looking for straight up romance, then this is one of the best Valentine's Day movies you can watch. It doesn't precisely have anything to do with the holiday, of course, but who cares? Honestly, it's one of the most epic romances in modern films, you just can't resist it!
7. An Affair to Remember
I'll end this list of Valentine's Day movies with the film that brought Sleepless in Seattle into being. Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr are just magic – even more so than Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. If you just want to settle down on the couch with the person you love most, this is a fantastic, romantic film to watch together.
As you can see, Valentine's Day movies are very … varied. Whether you're in an anti-Valentine's Day mood or if you're so in love you can't see straight, you can find a film to suit your mood. Then, too, there are plenty of straight romances you can watch during the holiday. What are your favorite movies for Valentine's Day?
