Top 10 Rom Coms Everyone Needs to See ...

By Hannah

There are definitely some romcoms everyone should see. I was recently asked what my favorite romantic comedy was. My answer was “Umm...I need to think about it. There are so many!” This turned into me making a list because I can’t make decisions to save my life. I have compiled my top favorites by diligently, erm, studying them all from the classics to modern favorites. Oh, and no making fun of my obvious Tom Hanks obsession. Here we go with the romcoms everyone should see.

1 When Harry Met Sally

Who can resist the adorable dynamic of the grumpy Billy Crystal and the sweet Meg Ryan? “I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the

rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible." So. Many. Tears.

2 Sleepless in Seattle

Another classic from Meg Ryan and my favorite Tom Hanks movie. “It was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together.” Okay, Tom Hanks. You’ve convinced me.

3 You’ve Got Mail

Because obviously, I’m going to pick another Tom Hanks movie. This storyline was basically the cutest in the history of the world. Girl meets boy, girl hates boy, girl falls in love with boy thinking he’s someone else, girl and boy find out that they both love each other. Ah, so good. “But I just want to say that all this nothing has meant more to me than so many... somethings. So, thanks.”

4 Love Actually

Between the interwoven storylines, humorous banter, and man candy in the form of Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson and Colin Firth, this was arguably the best rom com of 2003. “Who do you have to screw around here to get a cup of tea and a
chocolate biscuit?”

5 Bridget Jones’s Diary

Another great movie featuring Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. Renee Zellweger does a stellar job of portraying a quirky, lovelorn woman searching for the one. The thing is, it later becomes the two. Hugh Grant and Colin Firth fighting over her in the street, that’s all you need to know. “Will find sensible a boyfriend to go out with and not continue to form romantic attachments to any of the following: alcoholics, workaholics, commitment phobic's, peeping toms, megalomaniacs, emotional fuckwits or perverts?"

6 My Best Friend’s Wedding

This is my favorite Julia Roberts movie EVER. This film has everything! Drama, romance, a love triangle, and of course, the obligatory hot costar, Dermot Mulroney. “He's got you on a pedestal and me in his arms.” DRAMA.

7 While You Were Sleeping

This movie was unlike any I have ever seen. It starts with what looks like a love story, but evolves into a story about family and following your heart. And also a love story. “I don't drink anymore... I don't drink any less, either!” Yaaas. Classic Elsie.

8 500 Days of Summer

At the beginning of this movie, the narrator warns the viewer

that it is not a love story, however, this is one of my favorite romantic comedies for several reasons. The comedy is dark and somewhat twisted, which is a nice change of pace. And while he doesn’t end up with the girl he thought, the story does have a happy ending. And Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Enough said. “Roses are red, violets are blue... Fuck you, whore!” Intrigued? Good.

9 Must Love Dogs

This is John Cusack at his cutest. Him and Diane Lane, both lonely and middle-aged, try internet dating and hilarity ensues. “Probably the best place is Home Depot... or any hardware store. You just walk up to the cutest guy and say "Do you know where I get nailed? I mean nails? Pardon me, I've been drinking all afternoon." And that way he knows: one, that you're easy, and two, that you like to drink.”

10 Sweet Home Alabama

This is the quintessential southern -style rom com. A southern belle turned city socialite played by Reese Witherspoon gets engaged to her fancy boyfriend played by Patrick Dempsey. As delicious as he is, she gets pulled back toward her equally attractive childhood love played by Josh Lucas and the place she came from. “Why would you want to marry me for, anyhow?” Young Jake: “So I can kiss you anytime I want.”

So ladies, if you haven’t seen any of these movies you need to get your priorities in order and make it happen. You won’t be disappointed.
