Teresa

It’s hard not to love movies about food. What’s not to love? Amazing actors (most of the time) spend an entire two hours eating food that could almost be the star itself. Some movies about food are good, and others are bad, but this compiled list will definitely help you pick out your next movie on movie night!

Julie and Julia

I write about my love of Julie and Julia much more than necessary, but I honestly love this movie too much to feel bad about it. If you’re looking for a movie about delicious, gorgeous food, as well as beautiful love stories, look no further than this movie. It is everything you could ever want in movies about food and more.

2

Chef

This movie hasn’t played in a theatre near me yet, but when it does, I’ll be the first one in line for a ticket. I love the casting, the premise, the trailer, and everything else. I think it will be one of my favorite movies of the summer.

UPD:

The trailer alone had me salivating with its delectable scenes of sizzling skillets and chopping boards bursting with color. It's Jon Favreau at his best, whipping up a heartwarming tale about a chef who finds his zest for life and family through the flavors he creates. The on-screen culinary journey is as much about food as it is about rediscovering passion and purpose. It promises laughter, touching moments, and, of course, a feast for the eyes that will likely have me hunting down the nearest food truck once the credits roll.

3

Eat Pray Love

Okay, so Julia Roberts does a little bit more than eat in this movie. She also prays and loves, if you didn’t glean that from the title. However, if you’re simply looking to watch a movie about food, look to the power of DVDs and instant-watch video. Thankfully, fast-forward exists, and can be put to use if you feel really strongly about watching a movie simply about beautiful food.

4

The Hundred Foot Journey

Besides Chef, I imagine that this movie will be another favorite movie of mine this summer. I’m anxiously waiting for its release. The entire cast and trailer look wonderful, but what really sticks out to me every time I see the trailer is the food. It looks so beautiful and vibrant. I can’t wait to see it in theatres!

5

Super Size Me

If this movie didn’t convince you to stop eating fast food, I’m not sure what will. I had to watch Super Size Me for a class four years ago, and have only had McDonald’s a handful of times since then. It’s one of the best and most moving food documentaries on the market, and if you haven’t watched it yet, it’s simply a must-watch.

UPD:

Morgan Spurlock's documentary, Super Size Me, plunges headfirst into the harrowing effects of a fast food diet, famously experimenting with a 30-day McDonald's-only regime. The documentary brilliantly combines humor with shocking statistics, personal experiment, and expert testimonies to reveal the industry's impact on our health. It's a thought-provoking deep dive that leaves you questioning your next drive-thru visit. The film not only entertains but educates, pulling back the curtain on nutritional content and marketing strategies, pushing viewers towards more mindful eating habits. After watching, your cravings for a Big Mac may just turn into a hunger for change.

Heartburn

This movie isn’t as well known as other movies, making it a must-watch the next time you’re looking for a movie about food to watch. Heartburn is a semi-autobiographical book about Nora Ephron’s second marriage, eventually adapted into a movie starring Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson. I’m sure you’re wondering where the food comes into play, and it is that Rachel Samstat, Meryl Streep’s character, is a cookbook author, meaning food is abundant throughout the movie. Imagine Julie and Julia with a dash of extra drama.

Food, Inc

If I’m counting correctly, I have been assigned this movie in four different classes throughout my education, if that makes a case for just how moving it is. You’ll never eat the same way again after you watch this movie. It will completely alter your eating habits, even years later.

What’s your favorite movie about food? Right now, mine is Julie and Julia, but that changes all of the time! Let me know your favorite movie about food in the comments so I can check them out!
