Ruby Slippers – the Wizard of Oz (1939)

Arguably the most famous pair of shoes in the movies, the ruby slippers given to Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz have become almost a symbol of Hollywood and the golden age of American cinema. The immortal line ‘there’s no place like home’ is quoted across the world, and the actual slippers Judy Garland wore have become a popular tourist attraction touring around different museum exhibitions.

Glass Slipper – Cinderella (1950)

The sparkling glass slipper in Disney’s 1950 animated adaptation of the classic fairy tale Cinderella is certainly one of the most memorable shoes in movie history. The only link between Prince Charming and the downtrodden Cinderella, the slipper acts as the catalyst to helping the two characters find each other once again and live happily ever after.

Barbarella (1968)

Jane Fonda became an instant sex symbol as the scantily clad protagonist fighting to protect the galaxy in 1968’s Barbarella. Though her character’s costume didn’t amount to much fabric at all, one thing that did stand out was her amazing, eye catching silver knee high boots. The boots provided a really futuristic feel to the costume and Jane Fonda certainly knew how to wear them with beauty and authority!

Pretty Woman (1990)

Another set of knee high boots that have become a stand out symbol of film history are the shiny black leather boots worn by Julia Roberts in the 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman. Kill Bill (2003)

Rather than making the main character sexy or cute, Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 film Kill Bill gave Uma Thurman’s character a pair of shoes that helped to be the butt-kicking, sword wielding action hero that we all loved. Thurman’s ‘The Bride’ sports an awesome pair of yellow Asics sneakers to match her yellow tracksuit, and this outfit became synonymous with a strong, in control woman who has a mission and will stop at nothing until she gets the justice she deserves!

Sex & the City (2008)

Let’s be honest, Manolo Blahnik’s are basically a main character in the Sex & The City universe! When the smash hit television series hit the big screen in 2008, we saw Carrie Bradshaw’s dreams come true when Mr. Big built her her very own shoe closet, filled with all of the most amazing heels you could ever wish to see. Yes the shoes in Marie Antoinette were confection!! Amazing

That's okay @Neecey Beresford- it was still really great without them, just hard for me to picture some of them. Guess I'll just have to watch all of them again LOL! Seems like a girls movie night is in my near future :-)

Those fabulous shoes in the film Marie Antoinette? I know they were done by some well known shoemaker but not sure which one. Was it Jimmy Choo ? They were fabulous anyone.

Ruby slippers are the best ones

Really would have liked to have seen actual pictures of the shoes talked about in this, instead of the photos used. 😞

The closet Mr Big built was not filled with shoes in that movie. Only one pair which Carrie goes to retrieve and the reconcile!
