1

Everyone is Insecure

There's talk about breast size, weight, and men's "hoses" in the movie "Now and Then." All of these topics point to the fact that everyone is insecure about something at some point in their lives. This movie is really great at showing people that it's normal to feel the things they feel, especially insecurity. Who doesn't remember a time or isn't going through a time, when you just don't like something? It's normal!

2

Things Won't Always Be Easy

In the movie, there's a lot of times when they show struggles that real people have to go through. Characters are faced with divorce, heartbreak, insecurities, and a lot of other struggles that people face. In movies, things are almost always guaranteed happy endings, but in "Now and Then" we're shown how life can actually turn out. Life has it's ups and downs, just like in the movie.

3

The Best Friends Are Forever

We all like to say we have best friends that are going to be around for the rest of our lives. Sometimes that will be true and unfortunately, other times it won't be. What "Now and Then" shows is that the the absolute best kind of friend you can have is one that's been around forever, one that knows everything about you, and one that you have ups and downs but it always works out in end. I say "one," but it's even better if you have a few.

4

Don't Shut the World out Because of the past

How many times do we think about not getting into a new relationship because we're sick of getting hurt? Well, that's one topic that this movie covers and covers well. In the end, the character Samantha realizes that she's missing out on a lot of good in life because of her fear of getting hurt. I don't know about you, but that's a lesson I really needed to learn at some point. Just because you got hurt in the past, doesn't mean you need to hide from the future.

Life Isn't like the Movies

Ironic right? Since this is a movie this lesson probably seems out of place, but this movie doesn't have the happy endings that everyone expects. "Now and Then" shows how real life can happen, sometimes things are happy and other times it seems like nothing will be good again. In the end it just shows that life isn't like a movie (normally) because sometimes things don't work out.

Relationships with Parents Are Complicated

There's a line in the movie about one of the characters not always liking her parents and sometimes feeling like she doesn't know them. Who doesn't feel like this sometimes? When we're growing up, and even as adults, you don't always like your parents. Feeling like you don't know them is pretty normal too, so "Now and Then" shows that when you're feeling is normal. To everyone that watches this movie, that's a very important lesson.

7

Being a Teenager Can Suck

People like to tell you that you have it easy when you're young or a teenager, but is that true? This movie shows that it's not easy being young! When you're a teenager things are awkward, you don't know who you are, your body changes, and things just get all around weird. "Now and Then" shows that it's OK to feel confused and alone and that it won't be like that forever.

There are a lot of awesome lessons in this movie about real life. They're all pretty relatable which is why this is an awesome movie. Which lesson is your favorite? What would you add?
