7 Life Lessons from F.R.I.E.N.D.S That Are Valuable and True ...

By Leeann

There are a billion life lessons from FRIENDS that I’ve learned throughout the course of watching the show, I honestly feel like everyone needs to watch it just to learn! Of course I’m a little biased because it’s my favourite comedy show in the world, but it was on for 10 seasons so tons of other people must agree with me! We got to laugh with them, cry with them, and learn several incredible lessons along the way. So here are 7 life lessons from FRIENDS that are valuable and true!

Everyone Has a Lobster

Anyone who watched this show knows that one of the best life lessons from FRIENDS is the fact that everyone has a lobster. Everyone has that one person who is meant to be their person, meant to be their other half, because as Phoebe says, the lobsters in the tank, they hold each other’s claws! Monica has Chandler, Ross has Rachel, Phoebe has Mike, everyone has a lobster! Of all the life lessons from FRIENDS, finding your lobster is one of the most heartfelt.

2

Laughter is the Best Medicine

One of the best life lessons from FRIENDS is that laughter and humour are the best medicine. They made us laugh for years, and throughout each one of their lows, there was always laughter around to lift everyone’s spirits. No matter how crappy you’re feeling, and how bad your day is, if you have friends around you who love you and know how to make you laugh, you’re a pretty lucky gal!

3

Your Friends Are Your Family

Monica, Chandler, Rachel, Ross, Phoebe and Joey are family. There is no doubt about it. Your friends are the family you choose for yourself, they are the ones who are there for you throughout every point in your life. Monica was there for Rachel when her first wedding went down the drain, and everyone rallied around Phoebe when she gave birth to the triplets. One of the most valuable life lessons from this show is that the friends you surround yourself with are the family you end up making for yourself.

4

‘We Were on a Break’ is NOT a Valid Excuse

This is probably one of the most well-known life lessons from FRIENDS – ‘we were on a break’ is not a valid excuse to justify any stupid actions – OKAY ROSS? You cannot use this line to sleep with someone right away, because ‘we were on a break’ doesn’t mean a breakup (we got your back, Rachel)! Never utter these words as a way to justify shady actions!

5

PIVOT, PIVOT, PIVOT

The best way to move a couch – PIVOT! Aside from being one of the most hilarious moments on the show, one of the most hilarious life lessons is the great use of the word ‘pivot’ while moving a very large couch up a very small set of stairs. Also, a use of a diagram helps as well, just make sure not to draw such large muscles; it may be mistaken for something else!

Don’t Be Afraid to Take a Risk

This entire show started with a risk. Rachel left her wedding and searched for the one friend she knew in New York City – Monica – and the rest is history. One of the most valuable life lessons from FRIENDS is the importance of taking a risk. If Rachel hadn’t quit her coffee house job, she never would have ended up at Ralph Lauren. If Ross never asked Rachel out, one of our favourite TV show couples may have never gotten together. If Phoebe hadn’t agreed to go out with some random stranger Joey found, she never would have married Mike. Take risks, do something out of the ordinary, it may be scary at the time, but it will be worth it in the end.

Listen to Your Heart

This show is filled with heart and soul. Time and time again each of the characters were faced with situations where they listened to their heart. One of the truest life lessons from FRIENDS is the importance of listening to that voice inside you, because that is what will guide you in life. It doesn’t matter if other people don’t think you’re heading down the right path, once you make a decision in your heart, you need to follow it.

There you have it! There are tons of other life lessons that this show has taught us, and like all of our favourite shows, there are always moments that stick out in our heads that instill a lesson in us that we won’t forget. So tell me, what have you learned from watching this show?

I've always loved FRIENDS.

What about Joey...? Whose his lobster?

I lovvve Friends. And I also learned that you should never wait until it's too late to tell someone you love them. Eg Rachel waiting Ross was practically down the aisle with Emily. Or Ross being sidestepped by Joey's proposal after Rachel had Emma

I love my lobster! I love the pivot pivot PIVOT episode lol.
