Everyone has a list of their favorite classic movies. I love the movies we have today, but there is something about the classics that is just a little special. Wouldn’t you agree? Let me share some of my favorite classic movies with you. If you have missed them, you are certainly missing out.
This movie is one of the best which is why it makes the list of my favorite classic movies. This movie is set in the civil war time period. It follows a spoiled and strong willed daughter of a plantation owner, Scarlett O’Hara, throughout the film. Scarlett believes that she loves Ashley, the son of a fellow plantation owner, but he has someone else in his life. Scarlett learns a lot of lessons about life and love, including who her heart really belongs to.
I try to watch this movie each year during Christmastime. It is about two guys who fall for two girls and they all end up at this inn that is in risk of going under. It has an all-star cast, including Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. There are many comical and touching moments in this film. It is also a musical for those that love that genre of films.
I only recently watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s for the very first time. And you know what? All the hype about Audrey Hepburn is spot on, as far as I am concerned. Though the storyline was good, what made it even better for me was enjoying Audrey’s timeless style in the film. There are several very funny moments that my daughter and I are still laughing over.
This is also a musical. It is about a man who is looking for a wife to take care of him and his younger six brothers. They live in the mountains and the men are very unsophisticated. The bride does not realize what she has gotten herself into when she agrees to marry. The mess gets even bigger when the other six brothers decide to go kidnap brides for themselves.
Oh, I love Rudolph! This is my absolute favorite Christmas cartoon to watch. This little film is about Rudolph and how he just didn’t fit in so he goes off to join a band of misfit toys. He doesn’t think he is needed and has to learn for himself that he was wrong. An additional little factor of sweetness is Rudolph and Clarice’s romantic interest in one another.
Swiss Family Robinson is about a family that is shipwrecked on an island. When they realize that they may not be rescued, they have to learn to make a home in the beautiful paradise they find themselves in. It is very interesting how the film portrays them doing this. Meanwhile, danger lurks in the form of pirates. This movie is made by Disney which is even more evidence that it is a great watch.
West Side Story is based on the long, long ago classic story of Romeo and Juliet. It is set in New York City. There are two warring gangs in the movie, the Sharks and the Jets. A couple forms, Maria and Tony, each from one side of the tracks. Their love story is very emotional to watch play out.
There are so many wonderful classic movies out there it is difficult to choose favorites. But I would love to know yours. Which movies make your list of favorite classic movies?
