Brilliant Reasons to Watch Padmaavat ...

Need some reasons to watch Padmavaat? If any out of the thousands of Bollywood movies made every year should entice you to watch one, it has to be Padmaavat. This fantastic movie has the highest grossing weekend opening of any Bollywood movie so it has obviously captured the American public. Don't worry about the subtitles, it is a visual feast. There are so many reasons to watch Padmaavat.

Set in 1303 AD medieval India, the story of Queen Padmaavat is about honor, bravery, sacrifice, and obsessive love. The movie is an adaptation of Malik Muhammad Jayasi's 16th-century epic poem. Queen Padmaavat is famous for her exceptional beauty as well as a strong sense of justice. She is the politically savvy wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh and the pride of the Chittor Kingdom in North West India. The legend of her beauty reaches the reigning Sultan of Hindustan – Allaudin Khilji. He is a savage madman and a tyrant who is fixated on possessing anything that is exceptionally beautiful. He lays siege to the impenetrable Chittorgarh fortress where the Queen lives, but after 6 months he returns to his land empty-handed. He becomes obsessed and determined to capture Chittor and its Queen at any cost. The Queen and Maharawal attempt to save their centuries-old kingdom by employing various tactics, but in the end, the Queen chooses to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect her dignity.

Director-composer Sanjay Leela Bhansali overcame intimidation by Indian religious fundamentalists to bring this sprawling epic to the big screen. It is the first Indian film to be released in IMAX 3D. Bhansali draws out the fiery onscreen chemistry between the king and queen and elicits eroticism even when the characters are wrapped in yards of gold-embroidered silks and draped in pearls and precious gems. Padmaavat’s huge and sumptuous palace interiors and classically inspired music lend elegance to the film without overpowering it.
