There are countless reasons why I love TV! Some of these may not be the most relatable, but a few of them are definitely things that can be said for many people. I hope that you agree with some of these reasons why I love TV.
Television is one of the many forms of entertainment that can be used as an escape. For example, when my obsession began I was a homebody that didn’t really leave the house because I was always inside doing schoolwork. For me, TV became the way that I escaped from the everyday routine I was stuck in. This is probably one of the main reasons why I love TV. It may not seem like the most lighthearted reason to love TV, but when it comes down to it, who doesn’t need a little means of escape every now and then?
A lot of people say that they prefer watching movies over TV. Development is my reason that I disagree with them. There is so much more development in a television series, for both characters and the actual story, than there is in movies. Sometimes movies leave an audience wanting more information than they’ll ever get, while in a TV show an audience learns more and more information each week.
If a show is done right, it will leave its viewers in anticipation of its next season, or even its next episode. One show that is really good at leaving the audience thinking about it for months to come is “Walking Dead.” When people are counting down the days to the next season of a show only a few days after the previous season ended, you know it’s a good show.
Television is probably one of the quickest forms of entertainment out there, other than music. In the time it takes to watch a movie you can watch multiple episodes of a TV show. This may seem like a downside to some, but to me it’s an upside. This leaves the viewer with two options: they can either watch a ton of episodes in one sitting or, if they’re in a rush, they can quickly watch one episode of something and then return to what they have to do. With a book, a reader is likely to get sucked into reading and with a movie a viewer is likely to have to stay put for an hour and a half or more.
Yes there’s a kind of book for everyone, a kind of movie for everyone, and a kind of music for everyone, but with TV there’s so much of everything! Just think about the fact that there are whole channels dedicated to golf, baseball, travel, shopping, and food. Yes there are movies, books, and maybe even some music that can be related to those things as well, but it’s just not the same! The best part about it is that there’s a good chance that you’ll find something you didn’t think you’d enjoy because there’s so much variety.
Ok, I’ll admit that this one isn’t specific to television, but it definitely belongs on this list. There are characters in movies and books that stick with everyone, but for me TV characters stick with me more than anyone else. It’s not just the characters that you get to know over seasons. It’s their stories, their families, their relationships, and everything else that makes them who they are that makes it so easy to get attached and fall in love with as a viewer.
I can’t watch a movie over and over again. I don’t know why, but once I know how it ends it’s really hard for me to want to see it again, although there are a few exceptions! On the other hand, with a TV show, it’s completely understandable to watch a certain episode repeatedly. Yes, you know how that ends but in the grand scheme of the whole show, that one episode is probably a drop in the bucket. So why not watch the same episode of Scrubs ten times? It’s not like it gives away the ending!
It’s pretty much a definite that I love TV more than the average person, but that doesn’t mean that our reasons can’t be the same! Do you agree/disagree with any of these reasons? What is your reasoning for why you love TV?
