There are plenty of TV shows that would make great movies. There have been plenty of shows that have been made from movies. There have also been movies made from TV shows, but sometimes they really just don’t work out that well. Maybe there should be more shows made into movies! Let’s take a look at seven TV shows that would make great movies.
When we look at what makes a transition from the small screen to the silver screen successful, a few things stand out:
- A dedicated fanbase that craves more content.
- Unresolved storylines or "cliffhangers" that need closure.
- A cinematic world that feels too big for just a television budget.
1 Veronica Mars
Have you heard, “Veronica Mars” fans?! This hope that we have been holding onto for years finally came true! We actually got a Veronica Mars movie and it was everything we could have hoped for. Hopefully, you’ve seen it by now and got answers to the questions that were left unanswered when the show originally ended. It’s a perfect example of how fan dedication can bring a beloved character back to life, making it one of the best success stories for TV shows that made great movies!
2 The Event
I didn’t watch all of the episodes of this briefly lived show. To be honest, what turned me off was the fact that I knew there would be no conclusion. The show barely made it a season and it was guaranteed to leave me with more questions than answers. It would be awesome to see this show made into a movie to finally answer the questions that fans have been aching to have answered for years since the show's demise. If you enjoy cult classic TV shows with high stakes, this is definitely one that deserved a better ending.
3 Pushing Daisies
Well, I’m just pushing my own agenda here (yes, pun intended). I loved “Pushing Daisies” so much when it was on and still miss it to this day. Do I think that it would make a good movie? Yes! I can see it now. It would of course have to recap on the previous story to catch people up, but then once it carried on past the show’s conclusion I’d be thrilled. In all honesty, I think that this show would have been more successful as a movie, even though I personally loved it as a show, because it’s the kind of story line that would draw people in but probably for a limited time. You can still catch the magic on the Pushing Daisies IMDB page to see why fans are still obsessed.
4 24
I never watched “24,” but I know it was a huge success. When trying to find out what shows other people would like to see as movies, “24” popped up on multiple websites. I’m not sure what about the show drew people in, but I know that there was a huge fan base and that a lot of people were crushed when it ended. This might not make the best movie, in comparison to others in this article, but I think that there are a lot of people who would go see it! The ticking clock mechanic would translate perfectly to a high-octane two-hour thriller.
| Show Title | Original Network | Status | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | Veronica Mars | UPN/The CW | Movie Released | | Pushing Daisies | ABC | Cancelled (Cult Status) | | The Sopranos | HBO | Prequel Movie Released |5 Lost
Oh, “Lost.” What am I going to do with you?! I stopped watching this show very early on and yet, it finds a way to creep onto so many of my lists. We all know that “Lost” would have been, and still could make, a great movie. I actually think it may have been a better movie than TV show because in a movie it’s hard to drag a story on too long. Nevertheless, it could still work as a movie somehow. I’m not really sure how, but I bet there are some great writers out there that could figure it out. Perhaps a reboot is in order? Check out our thoughts on the best TV reboots to see where "Lost" might fit.
6 Alphas
I literally just found out that this show was cancelled and I demand a movie! To make this movie work, I think the writers would have to do a quick run through of what happened in the two seasons that “Alphas” was on and then lead into the conclusion. It would make no sense to just show what would happen after season two because that wouldn’t draw much of an audience. While the show didn’t last that long, it definitely gained enough fans that a movie is a reasonable solution to the problem we are all now faced with. What was supposed to happen!?!? See another show that left us hanging for similar frustration.
7 The Sopranos
I’ve never seen “The Sopranos,” not even one episode. This probably isn’t a movie that I would go see, but I’m sure there are a lot of fans who would go see this movie. We actually did get a glimpse back into this world with the prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark. This movie didn’t necessarily take place after the series ended, but it gave fans the backstory they craved. Why not make another movie from such a beloved TV show? It makes sense to me!
Who knows whether these shows would make good movies or not, all I know is I want to see them! Would you see any of these movies? What shows would you like to see made into movies?
