1. Neon Genesis Evangelion
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a dramatic science fiction show you won’t be able to help loving! It's one of the anime shows that you can enjoy at any age because the plot is so intriguing and involved and riddled with religious symbolism. This apocalyptic anime describes the life of a teenage boy recruited to pilot the Evangelion, a massive bio-machine. His mission is to defeat the Angels, the enemy in this riveting series.
2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
If you love fantasy series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the anime series for you! This series depicts the lives of Edward and Alphonse, brothers who both dreamed of becoming alchemists. But while they make a life threatening mistake when performing alchemy, they have to work together to pick up the pieces. The show features amazing character development, and an interesting plot you can enjoy regardless of your age!
3. Ergo Proxy
Ergo Proxy is another apocalyptic anime worth watching! We’ve all dreamed of what living in a Utopia would be like, and Ergo Proxy is the series that brings that dream into a reality under a disturbing light. In the city of Romdeau, everything is seemingly perfect, and humans coexist with peaceful androids. But the plot thickens once the androids become self-aware and begin committing murders. Follow Mayer and Iggy as they investigate the string of murders in this dystopian future.
4. Eden of the East
Eden of the East is the epitome of mystery! Regardless of your age, it’s easy to appreciate this show for its quality animation, plot, and characters. Akira Takizawa awakes in Washington DC with no memories, information, or clothes and rescues Saki Morimi, a university student. Their adventure together begins when Akira discovers he is part of a massive game in which he must live carefully, or else risk being “eliminated” by another unidentified player of the game.

5. Fruits Basket
Fruits Basket is my all time favorite anime; it’s more of a cutesy comedy than anything else, but the plot is still gripping, and the character development is phenomenal! The series starts when Tohru Honda begins living with three men of the Sohma family. But the Sohmas aren’t your average family; they have a dark secret and have been cursed. Tohru must come to terms with the strange and exciting world of the Sohma clan if she wishes to continue living with her friends.

6. Darker than Black
Yet another show takes a unique spin on a post-apocalyptic world. In Darker than Black, the gates of Heaven and Hell have been opened, allowing for strange phenomena to occur every day. This new world has shaped people to behave differently and sometimes inhumanely. The series is fascinating, mysterious, and a must watch for all!
7. Future Diary
Future Diary is a somewhat strange and outrageous series, but it still manages to pique your interest! Like Eden of the East, Future Diary is about a life-or-death type game involving conflicted emotions, psychological paranoia, and extremely high stakes. When Yuki, a lonely student whose only friends are imaginary, receives a cell phone that can predict the future, he is forced to join a game involving twelve other people, all who had received similar phones. The winner of the game will become God, so the weighted question asked is “Would you kill to become God?”
Anime isn’t just a genre to enjoy when you’re under the age of ten; you can love anime series at any age without feeling guilty! In fact, many anime are made specifically for a more mature audience! Which anime do you love?
