I'm here to tell you about the best supernatural movies of 2013, because there are some good ones! Some of them are already out in theatres while others are upcoming. If you like tales of magic and wizards and body snatchers and things like that, I know you'll be eager to get your tickets. So take a look at some of the top supernatural movies of 2013 and see if your favorite picks made the list!
As a Stephen King purist and a huge fan of both Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, I don't want to like this movie, but it promises to be one of the most exciting supernatural movies of 2013. Outcast girls with telekinesis? Come on! I really don't know about Chloe Moretz as Carrie (and I think I've said that before), but I think Julianne Moore will make a great Margaret and I can already see Judy Greer as gym teacher Desjardin. Do you think this version will have the infamous tampon throwing scene?
The more I see this preview, the more excited I am to see this film. I think the cinematography looks gorgeous, which always grabs my attention, plus the premise is really interesting. I might just have to read the books, even though they're YA. Besides, it has Viola Davis and Emma Thompson (who looks just gorgeous); I'd see this no matter what.
Since I'm not the biggest fan of Stephenie Meyer and I only made it through the first Twilight film, this one is for all of you – I love you! I couldn't mention upcoming supernatural films without giving space to The Host, and even though it kind of, sort of seems to rip off various other films and TV shows, Twilight and Meyer fans are already raving. I'll be honest, I don't really want to see this, but … I probably will. Max Irons and Boyd Holbrook are two of my favorite male models, so they'll make excellent eye candy, and Saorise Ronan is one of the most beautiful and talented actresses working right now. She deserves more screen time. It's also neat that she's again starring alongside Jake Abel, who was also in The Lovely Bones.
Zombie movies are totally supernatural, and speaking of fabulous little male models, how adorable is Nicholas Hoult? I've loved him since seeing him in About a Boy, he gave an absolutely amazing performance in A Single Man, and I thought he was excellent as a young Beast in X-Men: First Class. The previews for this movie look absolutely hilarious, and I can't wait to see how they deal with the premise of a zombie becoming more human.
Lots of the latest supernatural films are based on books and book series; this is another one I think I'm going to have to read soon. It's technically an action fantasy, but you definitely can't deny the supernatural elements. I just saw a preview for the first time and it looks so good! Jamie Campbell Bower is such an excellent actor, plus hello, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who's not in nearly enough to make me happy these days. Neither is Kevin Zegers, for that matter. But 'lest I get overloaded by all the pretty boys, I think the premise is really intriguing. I was pretty much hooked at “Shadowhunters.” Has anyone read the books? Think this will be worth a watch?
These last two supernatural flicks definitely have horror elements. Or maybe they're horror movies with supernatural elements. Anyway, naturally this is a remake of a Japanese film, which in all honesty is probably better than this one will be because that's the way it goes. It takes place in Detroit, though, so Heather will likely make me see it unless it's too scary, because then she'll hide her face the whole time. Still, the plot is interesting, so I hope that it won't be too much like everything else.
Mama was based on a Spanish film, so … yeah. The previews creep me out already. “Mama, mama, mama.” It also makes me think of Stewie Griffin. Portions of this remind me of The Ring, which I loved, so I'll probably give it a chance based on that – but probably not alongside the Better Half, because she can't even handle the previews. Also she gets mad when I sneak up behind her and whisper-hiss “Mama” in her ear.
Although supernatural flicks aren't my favorites, I do like to lose myself in them sometimes. With films like these up for grabs, I confess that I'm quite excited!
