1. "My Screw Up"

This was such an incredibly sad episode that it frequently tops lists of the most emotional moments in TV history. Dr. Cox was the one who always had it together; he was the cynical, unbreakable mentor who never really seemed like the type to have emotional breakdowns. That's exactly why this episode was so sad! Seeing his walls finally crumble was a shock to the system. J.D. was the one who eventually had to snap him back into reality, leading to that famous realization at the funeral. This episode tricked a lot of people with its clever editing—it wasn't what it seemed at first. Even years later, it remains one of the most movies that will undoubtedly make you cry in television form.

2. Laverne's Death

With her witty remarks and her surprisingly wise words, Laverne earned a permanent spot in my heart early on. She really did care for everyone in her own unique way. When she got sick and ended up on her deathbed, I was absolutely heartbroken! The way Carla took it was particularly painful to watch. She was completely broken, and it felt so real. That is some incredible acting because when Carla was broken, so was I. It’s a moment that reminds us how deeply the Sacred Heart staff felt like a real family.

3. Season 8 Finale

This part was so beautiful, yet so profoundly sad. J.D. saw a vision of his future, and the combination of "The Book of Love" playing in the background brought me to tears every single time. It was such a beautiful, hopeful ending for a character we had watched grow for nearly a decade. This is where Scrubs really ended for most fans. While there was a Season 9, many consider this the true series finale because it offered the kind of closure the later episodes just couldn't match. It’s easily one of the most emotional Scrubs episodes ever aired.

4. "My Old Lady"

This was such a touching and grounded episode from the show's first season. The patient, Mrs. Tanner, was different from most of the patients they deal with because she was actually ready for death. She wasn't fighting for her life with the same desperation everyone else would; she had lived a full life and was at peace. J.D. felt a deep connection to her, and even though he didn't understand her perspective at first, he reluctantly learned to let her go. It was a major turning point for his character as a doctor.

5. "My Lunch"

This episode was all kinds of sad, and it’s often cited as the point where the show reached its dramatic peak. Jill, a recurring patient we all learned to love, passes away suddenly. At first, it seems her death might provide a silver lining, as her organs are donated to three different transplant patients. One life lost could save so many more, right? Tragically, the transplant goes wrong, and all three patients die. Dr. Cox feels an overwhelming sense of guilt and suffers a severe emotional breakdown. J.D. is the only one there to help build him back up, showing just how far their relationship had come.

6. "My Deja Vu"

In this episode, J.D. starts to notice that life in a hospital often happens in cycles. We see Dr. Cox return to the hospital following his drunken breakdown after the tragedy of the three transplant patients. He eventually confides in Elliot, admitting that he is genuinely scared to make medical decisions now. I really liked that they bonded over this vulnerable moment, as it showed a rare side of Dr. Cox's humanity and how much he respects Elliot's growth.

7. J.D.'s Dad Dies

It was so incredibly sad when J.D.'s dad passed away. The fact that the legendary John Ritter played his father made the loss feel even more personal to the audience. J.D. certainly had his struggles with his dad over the years, but finding out he was no longer around was a heavy blow. The thing I loved most about this storyline was how it allowed Dr. Cox to step up. He finally showed J.D. how much he really cared for him, acting as the father figure J.D. so desperately needed in that moment. There you have it! These iconic scenes from Scrubs still leave me in tears. Believe it or not, there are actually a lot more sad moments scattered throughout the series. From the loss of Brendan Fraser's character to the smaller, quiet moments of patient loss, the show never shied away from the truth of life. Which moment left you in tears? Which one did I miss?
