Haven't the 2014 BAFTA winning movies been a delight? We've had Leonardo DiCaprio in The Great Gatsby and Wolf of Wallstreet, Oprah on the big screen, and dashes of Jennifer Lawrence in various places. The evening itself was a real emotion turner, especially when Cate Blanchett colorfully talked about the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman in her acceptance speech. Choosing between the 2014 BAFTA winning movies to find the best is hard, but these are my personal favorites.

1. 12 Years a Slave
12 Years a Slave is based on the memoirs of Solomon Northup, a man of free-born status, but was kidnapped and enslaved in Washington DC. Over the course of his enslavement, he worked on plantations in Louisiana. Tragically, these 12 years separate Solomon from his wife, children, and freedom. The emotions in this film are high, and it is incredibly deserving of its 'Best Picture' title.Out of all the 2014 BAFTA winning movies, it is probably one of the most challenging to watch!
2. Gravity
As a teen of the noughties, I often find it hard to separate Sandra Bullock from 'Miss Congeniality'. However, Gravity makes that absolutely possible. It features Sandra Bullock and George Clooney attempting to return to Earth following the mid-orbit destruction of their space shuttle. This entirely nerve-wracking film won Best British Film, amongst other titles.

3. American Hustle
Who doesn't love a bit of Jennifer Lawrence? It seems as though the movie world can't get enough of her right now! American Hustle is about two con artists roped into conning politicians by the FBI. It won Best Original Screenplay at the BAFTAS, and was nominated for many other awards.
4. The Great Beauty (La Grande Bellezza)
This Italian-made film took Cannes Festival by storm. It is therefore not so surprising that it was a massive talking point at the BAFTAS also. This movie focuses on the life of an aging socialite, who was once the life and soul of the party, but is now nearing the end of his life and reflecting on the opportunities he has had and missed. It sounds a little sad, but I can't wait to see it. The Great Beauty won Best Foreign Film at the BAFTAS.
5. Frozen
We all love a good animation film, right? From the second I saw Frozen's trailer (I was waiting to watch Turbo) I wanted to see it. This Walt Disney movie is based on 'The Snow Queen', but it has a bit of a comedic twist. It won Best Animated Film, and it packs a pretty good soundtrack too.

6. The Great Gatsby
We all know the Gatsby story pretty well! Just in case you don't, it is about a man named Gatsby who has gone from rags to riches with the aim of pursuing his beloved Daisy. Daisy is married, living across a lake, and Gatsby throws lots of parties. I'll leave it there, for those who don't want spoilers! The Great Gatsby won Best Costume Design and Best Production Design!
7. Philomena
Okay, so I know there are probably others like it out there, but Philomena is the first British-French-American comedy I have heard of! What a great union. It tells the story of a woman named Philomena and her 50-year long search for her son. It features one of my favorite comedy actors: Steve Coogan. Philomena won Best Adapted Screenplay.
Some of my favorite films from the 2014 BAFTA nominee list got a look in for awards, but didn't win. Aside from the year Jonathan Ross presented it, I feel as though it has been one of my favorites! Seeing Prince William presenting an award was quite a novelty, and there were some very emotional speeches. So, out of all the BAFTA winners, which movie do you love the most?
