As a lover of classic movies myself, I especially love watching them to inspire a little bit of style inspiration in me. As much as I love watching classic movies, I also love seeing what they wore years ago, especially in movies like Funny Face, where Audrey Hepburn was dressed entirely in Givenchy throughout the movie. These movies have inspired some of the biggest style movements over the course of the past few decades, which means that if you’re looking for style ideas and trends, these are the movies you need to see!
Breakfast at Tiffany’s is the ultimate movie to pull style inspiration from. It created the hype around the little black dress, a style staple in every woman’s wardrobe. Besides the classic little black dress, though, everything Audrey Hepburn wears as Holly Golightly is something that will enchant you and have you wishing for her wardrobe!
Funny Face is another Audrey Hepburn movie that’s known for its classic style. Throughout the entire film, fashion is the focus, and beyond that, Audrey Hepburn is dressed exclusively in Givenchy, making it a movie that will leave you drooling for every single outfit she wears. The film is basically a fashion show with a plot, so if you’re looking for something to inspire your style, this is the film.
Although Bonnie and Clyde is a movie that’s focused on anything but fashion, when I watched it, I was so focused on just how gorgeous Bonnie’s outfits are that I could barely focus on anything else. How was a runaway criminal so well dressed? We’ll never know, but what I do know is that if you’re looking for some classic style inspiration, you’ll find it in Bonnie and Clyde.
I think that after every girl saw Grease for the first time, their first reaction is how in love they were with the clothes from it. We’ve all been a Pink Lady for Halloween, and that’s all thanks to the fabulous style inspiration that came from Grease.
Although the Clueless hysteria was very much back in the swing of things before Iggy Azalea’s Fancy music video, her music video is what really brought it back. Lately, everyone’s been lusting over Cher Horowitz’s entire wardrobe since the 90s craze saw a comeback.
I think that after every girl saw The Notebook for the first time, she spent the next few weeks wondering why we don’t still dress like that today. Thankfully, the classic, retro style has started to come back, making it a movie that’s perfect for when you’re looking for a little style inspiration.
While The Hundred-Foot Journey may not be a classic movie just yet, when I saw it this summer, I knew that it’d be one we’ll watch for years to come. If not because it’s a wonderful movie, than because Marguerite, played by Charlotte Le Bon, has one of the best on-screen wardrobes we’ve seen in years.
What’s the movie you watch when you need a little bit of style inspiration? Do you watch any of these classic movies when you’re looking for style ideas and trends? Let me know your favorites in the comments so that I can check them out too!
