7 Endlessly Funny Comedies to Watch when You Are Feeling down ...

By Laura8 Comments

We’ve all had those days when funny comedies to watch are an absolute necessity. Sometimes we need them because we’ve broken up with someone, our boss has been a douche, or our friends aren’t being so friendly. If you have had one of those days, hopefully these funny comedies to watch will cheer you up. Maybe you can even have a comedy marathon!

1 Old School

The first time I saw Old School was when I was on vacation in Vegas. My sister and I were suffering from jetlag, and we needed a five AM pick me up. I swear, the scene when Will Ferrell is running down the road naked made us laugh so hard I am amazed we weren’t kicked out. Old School has some amazing actors in it. It is one of my favorite funny comedies to watch for sure.

Frequently asked questions

2 American Pie: the Reunion

Let me be honest. After the debacle that was American Pie: The Wedding, I wasn’t sure whether the reunion would be that good. Nonetheless, I downloaded it and watched it while in Ghana. I found it so funny, I was amazed that I could find anything else funny afterwards! As usual, Alyson Hannigan just did not look as though she had aged!

3 Dumb and Dumber

As a child of the nineties, I will never not love Dumb and Dumber. Jim Carrey is at his best in this film. It is absolutely ridiculous, and complete slapstick. However, it still makes me laugh even today.

4 Ace Ventura

Speaking of Jim Carey, I couldn’t go through this list without featuring Ace Ventura. It follows the life of an animal detective tracking down a missing football team mascot. I love the second movie just as much, but this one is high on my list of favorite comedies because it reminds me of being young. It made me want to grow up and live in an apartment with animals stashed away!

5 Knocked up

Katherine Heigl is one of my favorite actresses. In this movie, she gets ‘Knocked Up’ by a guy who has few prospects. After going through that little honeymoon period where you always feel as though someone is perfect, she realises she’s in a relationship car crash. Fortunately, everything turns out for the best! There is also a VERY graphic birth scene.

6 Shaun of the Dead

I am not sure whether Shaun of the Dead is everyone’s cup of tea as far as comedy is concerned. However, I am a massive Simon Pegg fan, so I will always find this funny. It follows the story of Shaun and his lay about flatmate as they try to make it through a zombie apocalypse alive. Set in London, this film features some pretty tragic characters, but they’re easy to love all the same.

7 Anchorman

Finally, there is Anchorman. I just adore Will Ferrell, whether he is in a movie or on a talk show. In Anchorman, he is an anchor during the super sexist seventies broadcasting period. When a woman joins his team, she causes quite a stir.

All of these comedies are lighthearted and guaranteed to draw out a few laughs. They feature great comedians from the last three decades or so. Although they are endlessly daft, they do the trick when it comes to cheering yourself up! If there is a comedy you love, what is it?
