Pixar Movies really are amazing. Vibrant, vivid, somewhere between realistic and whimsical, they take you to a place that cartoon animation doesn't quite manage. I love my Disney films, especially the older ones, but there's something about Pixar movies that is just extraordinarily special. There are tons of really good ones since that type of animation is becoming more popular, so here are just a few of the really stellar Pixar movies you should check out, if you haven't already!

Up

This is one of the best Pixar movies ever. More than that, it's one of the most romantic movies ever. The love story is only about five minutes long, but it's one of the most poignant I've ever seen. I've been a fan of Ed Asner's since catching reruns of The Mary Tyler Moore Show on Nick-at-Nite, but I think Carl might have been his best role ever.

2

Finding Nemo

What is it about Pixar movies and their ability to make you cry? An all star cast and a touching story make Finding Nemo absolutely timeless. This story of a lost little fish became an instant classic, for adults as well as children.

3

Ratatouille

My love for Patton Oswalt and all things French combined to make this one of my favorite Pixar movies. It's funny, touching, charming, and even inspirational. You can't even get that from most live action movies made today, and they only star metaphorical rats.

4

Toy Story

You can basically add all the Toy Story movies under this one. They're all great. Woody is far and away my favorite character. This is another Pixar film that brings a tear to the eye. Every time I watch it – every time I watch any of them, really – I want to go get all my old toys from my parents' house and tell them I love them.

5

Wall-E

This is one of my favorite Pixar movies not just because it has a moving story, but because of how I saw it: the Better Half and I saw it at a drive-in theatre together on the hottest night of the summer, and something about it was just all kinds of romantic. The story is incredibly relevant as well – I don't know about you, but it got me really serious about recycling.

A Bug's Life

This movie is just so cute! Filk is absolutely adorable, the grasshopper mafia is hilarious, and the story is precious. I ended up seeing Antz first and thinking it was the cat's pajamas, but A Bug's Life just swept it out of the water.

Monsters, Inc

My enduring love for John Goodman, big teddy bear that he is, caused me to see this movie. The story itself caused it to become one of my favorite Pixar movies. Oh, who am I kidding? They're practically all my favorites, but this one had the added bonus of making me not afraid of the land Underbed anymore.

I adore Pixar movies primarily because they take me to a new place when I watch them. To some degree, I imagine they're like the first technicolor movies from back in the day. You can imagine how audiences first reacted to color movies, and I think a lot of people now react that way to Pixar movies as they improve. I have no idea what the future holds for this medium, but I can't wait to see it! So tell me, what are some of your favorite Pixar movies?
