7 Addictive Tv Shows You Simply Must Check out ...

By Paula19 Comments

Since I've started using Netflix, I must admit that there are loads of addictive TV shows out there! We all have our favorites, but there are some recent hits (and some older classics) that you simply have to see. Here are some of the most addictive TV shows around, so grab the comfiest spot on your sofa and prepare to watch entire seasons back to back!

1 Supernatural

Who doesn't love a combination of hot guys, hot girls, spooky happenings, humor and a killer soundtrack? Supernatural has all this and more. Sam and Dean are hunters, hunting down things that go bump in the night, that is. But there's much more to the series than this, as anyone who's a fan knows! This is one of the most addictive TV shows out there, and it's now been running for 10 years - it must be good. Oh, and did I mention that both Sam and Dean are gorgeous?

Frequently asked questions

2 Sleepy Hollow

I recently started watching this when I heard about it from a friend, and can't wait for the next episode to air! We all know the tale of the headless horseman and Ichabod Crane, but this slick, spooky show has just enough humor to keep things interesting, plus great chemistry between Ichabod and his female sidekick. Definitely one to watch.

3 Breaking Bad

One of my friends got me into this and when I started watching I devoured almost 3 seasons back to back on Netflix over a few nights! It's taken me over a year to finally finish all 5 seasons, but it was well worth it. I'm not even going to give away anything about the plot, but you've probably heard about the show already. If you haven't, the basic premise is this - teacher Walter White is diagnosed with cancer and decides to make and sell crystal meth to make enough money to support his family. Interested? Check it out!

4 Girls

Girls has faced a lot of criticism since it first started. I can see why many people find Lena Dunham's characters grating - they're all children of celebrities, privileged and living it up in Manhattan. But girls is about far more than that; it's a realistic look into the life of a twenty something - it's at times hard to watch without cringing, which I think is the mark of a good show. Plus, it's worth it to see some of the terrible situations Hannah lets herself get into - anybody remember the burst eardrum episode?

5 Orphan Black

This is another show which was recommended to me by a friend - it's a Canadian sci-fi series which intrigued me from the outset. I won't give much away about the plot, but it begins when Sarah (played by Tatiana Maslany) sees a woman who appears identical to her throw herself in front of a train at the station. From there the mystery unravels over 10 nail-biting, dark episodes which I don't recommend you watch with the lights out! The good news is that Orphan Black has been commissioned for a second 10-episode season premiering in April this year - I can't wait.

6 Orange is the New Black

I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this drama, set in a prison. Actually, I guess it's more of a comedy with dramatic moments - it's one of very few shows I've watched where I've become completely involved with the characters. As the show progresses, you'll find yourself really caring about them, which made this show something special for me. It follows the story of Piper Chapman, a privileged New York woman who is sentenced to 15 months in a women's prison. To give any more away would be spoiling it - but watch out for Red, Alex, and of course Crazy Eyes. You'll love Crazy Eyes!

7 CSI

I was going to choose True Blood as my final show, but recently I've really become addicted to CSI again - CSI Vegas that is, the original show! Now in its 14th season, it's been the most successful of all three CSI shows - and I love it! Some of the original cast are still around, like Nick and Sarah, and even though Grissom is long gone, the addition of Ted Danson last year is actually quite welcome. He seems to fit with the rest of the cast really well, and has renewed my addiction for all things CSI!

Just writing this is making me want to get back to watching some of my favorite shows, most of which are on a winter break right now. The new seasons will soon be starting, so maybe you can check out some of these shows this year! What TV shows are you addicted to right now?
