After a long and stressful day, sometimes there is nothing I like better than curling up on the couch with a cozy blanket and popping in one of my favorite movies. There is something about my favorite movies; it is kind of like an old friend who you can rely on to pick you up, make you feel good, give you a good laugh – or cry – and just let you get away from it all.

1. Pretty Woman
Who doesn’t love the story of Cinderalla? This grown-up twist on the beloved fairy tale is certainly one of my favorite movies, and it always puts me in a good mood. It is one of those movies that I always stop to watch, no matter what part is on, and every time I watch it, I instantly feel better. There is just something about the chemistry between Julia Roberts and Richard Gere that is magnetic.
2. Sixteen Candles
When I need a good laugh, I can always count on one of my favorite childhood movies: Sixteen Candles. No matter how many times I see Long Duck Dong say "yes, married," and Anthony Michael Hall shaking his thing on the dance floor, I laugh until I cry. I absolutely adore this movie and can’t get enough of it.

3. Steel Magnolias
Every woman needs a good cry from time to time, and when I am in the mood for one, I in pop in Steel Magnolias. This incredibly sweet and endearing story of best friends who support one another through the love, life and the death of a child is so touching and heartfelt; it is like an emotional roller coaster every single time I watch it, and I love it.
4. Shawshank Redemption
I know that this is not a typical chick flick, but Shawshank Redemption certainly has a place on my list of favorite movies. The persistence of Andy Dufresne, the relationship shared between two men and the look inside a twisted prison really gets me riled up and pumped. This is one of my favorite movies that my husband actually likes watching with me.
5. Monsters Inc
Okay, I know that an animated child’s movie may not be on every woman’s list of favorite movies, but I have a 2-year-old and I am sure that all of you moms out there can appreciate a good animated movie. There are some flicks that my son loves to watch that I have no interest in, or that drive me batty, but Monsters Inc. isn’t one of them. I absolutely adore this movie. Boo is just so cute!

6. Billy Madison
Sometimes you just need to let your mind go numb to the world around you and a silly, nonsensical movie is just the thing to let you do that. For me, that movie is Billy Madison. It’s an Adam Sandler classic that has a silly story line and much needed comic relief.
7. 50 First Dates
This is another Adam Sandler movie that I simply adore. I love the dynamic between Sandler and Drew Barrymore, and Sean Astin, the beefed up brother, is absolutely hysterical. This is another movie that I watch every single time I catch it on television, or that I toss into the DVD player when I need a little pick-me-up.
When I need to get away from it all, a movie is just the ticket, and these 7 movies are my old standbys. So, how about you? Are any of these movies on your list of favorites?
