By Lane

It's a fun time when being nerdy is cool, which is why it's a great time to discuss the nine smart movies to help you get your geek on. This collection of movies is among my personal favorites, and I hope you share the same love and admiration for them as I do. Let's have an evening of nerdy films and discover some smart movies to help you get your geek on.

1 Hackers

It's fun to learn more about movies to help you get your geek on, after all, who wouldn't love computer hacking, nerds, and Angelina Jolie all in one movie? In this now-classic, a group of adolescent hackers take on an old-school hacker who is embezzling money from Ellingson Mineral Company. The tension between Dade and Kate is almost every nerd's dream.

Frequently asked questions

2 War Games

itunes.apple.com
For older nerds like myself, War Games is on the list of be-all, end-all nerd films. As soon as the super computer says, “Shall we play a game?” there's the sudden reminder of childhood memories that started the immediate attraction to all things computer. It also makes you look at their equipment and thank the creators of the computers available today that they learned the term, “compact.”

3 Star Wars

Although I was three years old at the time, I remember every frame of the original 1977 Star Wars release like it was yesterday. My family and I went to a drive-in, yep, a drive in, to see this now ultimate and legendary sci-fi nerd movie. I know some younger audiences may find it a bit cheesy today considering the advancements of cinematography. However, I have discovered that it, and its entire saga of movies have become a favorite among most. Like my niece, Katherine, for instance, who just a couple of days ago did her rendition of the scene in The Empire Strikes Back when Luke Skywalker is informed that Darth Vader is his father. I love that kid!

4 Untraceable

itunes.apple.com
Computer hacking and serial killers are another favorite concept. In Untraceable, Diane Lane takes on the challenge of discovering the location of a serial killer who is streaming live footage of murders in which the viewers advance their progress. It introduces viewers to cyber crime investigations which as you'll see are cool! The movie also empowers women; so it's awesome in my book.

5 Eagle Eye

In Eagle Eye, Shia LaBeof is accused of transporting illegal weapons after his twin brother dies during military service. If this weren't enough for one person, an entire network of insanity pulls him and Michelle Monaghan into a sinister plot utilizing everyday technology. Just when you thought you were fed up with telemarketers acquiring your cell phone number, here come the hackers.

6 The Fifth Element

itunes.apple.com
If you're ready to become impressed with technology even further, you must watch the Fifth Element. Who knew a supercomputer and a chunk of alien cells could produce and 'perfect' Mila Jovovich? I totally love her movies, she's awesome! Also, although his hair is a little crazy, does Bruce Willis look hot, or what? With this film, you have everything nerdy mixed with the comic antics of Chris Tucker along with a steady flow of action and adventure.

7 Disclosure

Disclosure presented the world with a first-hand look at what was in the future of communications. And isn't it wonderful to find a way to use technology to stop the efforts of a bad girl finally? This film was a wake-up call for everyone that sexual harassment was no longer just an assault on women only; that men could become victims, too. It also shows just how far a psycho ex will truly go.

8 Clash of the Titans

itunes.apple.com
Yes, I know; this is the original film and not the remake. But what's better than a night of mythology debates combined with 1980s jokes? Plus when it comes to originals, remakes, despite how well made, they are, never compare. Besides you could always rent the remake after you watch the original so you, and your friends can debate the sudden and unforeseen changes in the storyline.

9 Gamer

itunes.apple.com
Although Gamer kind of reminds me way too much of the Running Man (1987), I still love this film more. Could you imagine the terror you would feel when you realize your game could or could not end in a real life-threatening situation? Nonetheless, I'm such a gamer girl and when you add video games with Gerard Butler, you totally have my attention. Sorry, Arnie!

If you're a nerdy girl like me, you have your pick of movies that really make you have a great nerd moment. With this collection you can test your knowledge and in some cases learn even more. What are your favorite movies to get your geek on?
