This Eli Roth film is a gore fest to say the least. It follows two separate but interconnected storylines. First, three college students go on a trip overseas. Dangle the notion of romance in their face and what do you have? A crazy woman who successfully lures them into a death trap. On the flip side, a man ventures overseas with his friend to kill someone via an exclusive club. Who does he want to kill? Someone who looks like his ‘strong-willed’ wife. Ladies, if gore isn’t your thing, I understand. But if your ex is a low-down dirty dog, you really want to see how this plays out. The ending is awesome!

Sarah Connor is among my favorite action heroes. Her purpose in life is to protect her son in order to save the human race from the machines in the future. She’s strong and determined. She also knows how to handle her guns.

While Suckerpunch is not your typical feminist movie, I feel that it has several undertones that embrace girl power. In this futuristic world, Babydoll fights back against abuse, unjust imprisonment, and exploitation. As the girls group together, they discover that they have the power to overcome adversity and regain their freedom.

The Long Kiss Goodnight focuses around Samantha Caine, a school teacher who sustained a head injury and acquired amnesia. However, an unfortunate car accident unlocks the blank spaces within her mind and Charlie Baltimore resurfaces. Samuel L. Jackson plays a private investigator, Mitch, who becomes her partner in the search for the truth. This film is action-packed and full of the right level of one-liners to keep your mind off your breakup.

This movie is as close to a rom-com as I’m adding to this list. I’m adding it not because Dane Cook is fun, although he is. No, I’m adding it because of Kate Hudson’s clever comebacks. If you are not fluent in sarcasm, you will be by the end of this movie. It’s awesome!

While this movie starts off on a negative, I promise it improves. It begins with complete and total chaos, but then again, it’s a Quentin Tarantino film. Yet finally, girl power sets in and well, you’ll see.
