Stranger than Fiction

Stranger Than Fiction tops my list of movies about writers because it's such a unique story. The cast in this film is brilliant, with the likes of Will Ferrell, Emma Thompson, Dustin Hoffman and more. I really enjoyed watching Will Ferrell act in a more serious role. If you're a writer you will appreciate watching the process of writing a book and making your characters come to life on screen.

2

Midnight in Paris

Woody Allen nailed this romantic comedy about an aspiring author who travels to Paris with his fiancée. There's a fantasy element to this plot that allows Owen Wilson's character to time travel and meet some of his beloved authors before they were famous. Watch him overcome his fears and take a chance on himself while soaking in the beauty of Paris as the backdrop.

3

Swimming Pool

This edgy thriller stars Charlotte Rampling and French starlet Ludivine Sagnier. Charlotte's character is under a strict deadline to get her publisher a new transcript, one as good as, if not better than her previous popular novel. She takes a trip to the French countryside and finds some unexpected inspiration in a rebellious and beautiful teen. This movie is especially fun if you love a good mystery.

4

Wilde

Oscar Wilde is one of my favorite authors of all time. I have always appreciated his honesty and wit, as well as his appreciation for beauty. Wilde is a true to life film that sheds some light on Oscar's private life. If you love his work, you will enjoy getting to know more about the man behind the great pen.

Shakespeare in Love

First of all, this pretty movie is what won Gwyneth Paltrow her Academy Award and I love her to pieces. I'm sure you have had to read at least one story by William Shakespeare in high school. And if you were an English major like me, you had to get to know him pretty well. Watch this entertaining, romantic British dramedy unfold and witness the ultimate writer overcome dreaded writer's block.

I Capture the Castle

This lesser known coming of age story is set in wartime England. The writer, Cassandra, is an introverted teen girl who pours her heart into her journal. Her family is poor but they live in a gorgeous run down castle. Her father is also a writer but is suffering from writer's block and hasn't published anything since his first novel. Watch Cassandra blossom amongst her sisters and find new inspiration to write, even if it's just in your journal.

UPD:

I Capture the Castle is a 2003 coming-of-age drama directed by Tim Fywell and starring Romola Garai, Bill Nighy, and Tara Fitzgerald. The film is set in 1930s England and follows the story of Cassandra Mortmain, an introverted teenage girl who lives with her eccentric family in a run-down castle. Cassandra's father is a once-successful writer who has been suffering from writer's block for years and has not published anything since his first novel. The movie follows Cassandra's journey as she finds the courage to express herself through writing, and discovers the power of her own voice. The film was nominated for a BAFTA award for Best Adapted Screenplay and won the National Board of Review Award for Best Directorial Debut.

Julie & Julia

I will never get tired of this movie. I've always been a fan of Julia Child, long before I tried to cook the simplest of recipes. When I first saw this movie I was in a similar place as the main character, Julie. She's near the end of her 20s and questioning her career choice. Thankfully her husband is loving and supportive and encourages her to combine her passions for cooking and writing and start a blog. If you are a blogger or have ever thought about starting one, this movie will definitely inspire you.

I'm always browsing for new movies on writers for inspiration. Do you have any you would add to this list? I'd love to hear about them. Happy writing, ladies, and don't forget to write daily, even if it's only a paragraph.
