Every time I watch Roman Holiday, I can’t get over how perfect it is to see Audrey Hepburn scooting around town on a Vespa with a handsome Gregory Peck. The fact that there are so many incredible places to see in Rome is beautifully captured in this movie, and it will show you landmarks that you simply must see!

2. Letters to Juliet

I’m watching this as I write this article, and the reason it’s one of the best movies that take place in Italy is because this film highlights love just as much as it shows off the landscape. It somehow makes you feel the love emitting from the screen, and it just appears to be escalated by the beauty surrounding the actors. Plus, if you’re going in the summer, just look at what Amanda Seyfried wears—you’ll know exactly what to pack.

3. Under the Tuscan Sun

How I adore this film! Not only is it one of the best movies to watch before you go to Italy, but it’s also one of the best films to watch on any given day. Tuscany is gorgeous, but be warned: watching this movie will make you want to pack your bags and buy a villa. You’ll want to renovate a house, learn how to cook elaborate, beautiful dinners, and invite all your friends over to join the festivities. If you haven’t seen it yet, go watch it now!

4. Eat Pray Love

There are times when I have this movie on constant repeat. The part where Julia Roberts’ character goes to Italy is hands down my favorite part of the film. This is a must-see among travel movies, and it will make you want to try every kind of food this beautiful country has to offer. If you’re brave, learn the language and go to a restaurant to order in Italian! Make sure to also visit Naples and find that pizza place they ate at; I actually went there, and yes, the pizza really is that good.

5. When in Rome

First off, I love Kristen Bell, and Josh Duhamel is always a joy to look at. I figured, why not? I’ll watch this movie! Then I fell in love with it because not only does it show off the beauty of Italy, it makes you believe that love really can exist, all while making you laugh. This is definitely one of the best shows to watch before going to Italy; if you can, watch it on the plane ride over!

6. Casanova

Venice is one of the most beautiful places in the world, and if you can go now, go before it sinks! The name Casanova evokes love and passion, and so does Italy. Casanova, starring Heath Ledger and Sienna Miller, is one of the best movies in Italy to watch because it shows you how rich Venice was in its heyday—not just literally rich, but rich in culture, food, and entertainment. We all fall under the spell of our very own Casanova at some point!

7. The Tourist

One of the best movies to watch before going to Italy stars two of the biggest names in Hollywood: Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. This film has tons of twists and turns and will definitely appeal to adventurous souls. It has some of the best footage of Venice, and the camera lens simply devours the scenery. Angie makes us all want to dive into her closet. This really is a beautiful film; I think I might watch it again tonight. You should too!
