1. The Producers

In this movie, Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane set out to make money by creating a musical that's sure to fail. They find a horribly written script about Hitler and combine it with the worst actors and choreographer they can find. Songs like “Keep It Gay” and “When You’ve Got It, Flaunt It” are sure to entertain you. If you’re easily offended, you should pass this film by. If not, then this is one of the funny musical movies that you’ll never forget.

2. Hairspray

On iTunes: apple.itunes.com

Hairspray tackles the topic of segregation and makes for a heartwarming film. There are colorful clothes, big hair, and humorous songs. There are even well-known actors like Zac Efron, John Travolta, and Christopher Walken. “I Can Hear the Bells” and “Good Morning Baltimore" will make you chuckle, while other songs have a more serious tone. Hairspray is a family film that will make you think about the way you treat others.

3. The Rocky Horror Picture Show

On iTunes: apple.itunes.com

Have you ever danced along to the “Time Warp”? That song was created for this strangely wonderful musical. When a couple’s car breaks down, they enter a transvestite’s castle. A creation is born, a man and woman are unfaithful, and partying occurs. This highly sexualized film contains songs that will stay stuck in your head for days.

4. Doctor Horrible’s Sing along Blog

On iTunes: apple.itunes.com

This one isn’t exactly a film, but it involves singing and is hysterical. Plus, Neil Patrick Harris is the star. He plays Billy, an awkward man who is in love with a woman he sees at the laundromat. He’s just a typical guy-except he’s secretly a villain trying to get into the Evil League of Evil. Is Billy capable of getting both the girl and the job or will he have to sacrifice one for the other?

5. Eight Crazy Nights

On iTunes: apple.itunes.com

This one’s a cartoon about Hanukkah. Adam Sandler wrote the script and voiced most of the characters. The story follows Davey as he tries to make it through the holiday season while living with his old basketball coach. The film contains crude jokes, but has a heartfelt message about family and friendship. Be sure to watch it when you’re in the mood for comedy.

6. Little Shop of Horrors

On iTunes: apple.itunes.com

This is a musical I’m sure you’ve all heard of. It involves a man-eating plant that sings. What could be more entertaining than that? The main character works at the flower shop that contains the plant and feeds other humans to it. His goal is simply to get a cute co-worker to fall for him, but will he be able to?

7. Mary Poppins

On iTunes: apple.itunes.com

Who wouldn’t want a magical nanny to take care of their kids? Marry Poppins helps bring a busy father closer together with his children. The film is good for people of all ages and has several upbeat songs. If you saw it when you were young and don’t remember it, watch it again. You’ll find it supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Go sing along to these funny musical movies! What’s your favorite one that I’ve mentioned? Are there any that I left off the list?
