Love, Actually

Love, Actually is a holiday film that could not possibly go forgotten. It’s barely ten years old, yet I think it’s safe to say it’s one of the most classic festive romantic comedies we’ll see. It was such a fresh idea for a movie that it’s since been replicated in films like Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve. In general, it’s such a warm movie that it’s almost impossible not to watch around Christmastime. It’s a movie that you simply must watch every year. If you’ve never seen it, watch it before Christmas. Besides the fact that it’s really funny, it’s also fun seeing the stories intertwine as the movie goes on!

The Holiday

The Holiday is the dream holiday everyone wants to spend. I’d gladly spend Christmas in a cute cottage outside of London, or in an extravagant house in Los Angeles, and I’m not sure there are many people who wouldn’t. I just recently watched this movie, and I must say if you haven’t seen it, you must this holiday season.

Four Christmases

I saw this movie in theatres on Christmas the year it came out. I vaguely remember it flying under the radar while it was in theatres, but I think it will be a holiday classic in its own right for years to come. As the title implies, the plot relies heavily on Christmas, yet it stands on its own as a comedy, something very rare in holiday movies. If you haven’t gotten a chance to see it yet, make time for it this holiday season.

4

Just Friends

I think most women would agree that Ryan Reynolds is almost perfect. Ryan Reynolds in a Christmas-themed romantic comedy is somehow even closer to perfection. He’s hilarious in Just Friends, as is the rest of the cast. However, he really shines as he dons a fat suit. If you’ve never seen it and don’t know what I’m talking about, I think the only way you will understand is if you watch it for yourself.

You’ve Got Mail

As a die-hard Nora Ephron fan, You’ve Got Mail is a must-see every holiday season. It doesn’t revolve around Christmas, but the Christmas scenes in the film always make me so happy. There’s something about Christmas in New York, and even New York in general, that Nora Ephron depicted so well. It’s one of her greatest films that’s often overlooked.

When Harry Met Sally

While it’s not exactly a Christmas movie, When Harry Met Sally most definitely revolves around the holiday season, New Year’s Eve in particular. It’s another Nora Ephron classic, but the holiday themes are much more prominent. Nora almost uses New Year’s Eve as bookmarks in Harry and Sally’s relationship, and I’m sure if you’ve ever seen the movie, you know just how great that final New Year’s Eve scene is. If you haven’t yet, make time for this movie this holiday season.

The Family Stone

The Family Stone’s got an all-star cast that will surprise you as each new character is introduced. It’s a great all-around feel-good movie that you need to watch during the holiday season. It’s undoubtedly everyone’s family Christmas nightmare. You will laugh, you will cry, and yet it will still be one of the best Christmas movies you’ve ever seen. If you’ve never seen it, watch it immediately, and if you have, watch it again.

Have you seen any of these movies? Which one is your favorite? Which holiday movie do you make time for every year? Let me know in the comments!
