1. Grease (1978)
Grease is not only one of the best rom-coms set in a high school, it is simply one of the greatest films of all time! Undoubtedly known best as a musical, there are definitely elements of comedy throughout the film that keep you laughing just as much as you sing. From the hapless antics of the T-Birds and Pink Ladies to the clichéd geekiness of Eugene, Grease is a timeless classic that spans a number of different genres. I’m singing now … ah wella-wella-wella ah – tell me more, tell me more … join in if you like.

4. Mean Girls (2004)
Though Tina Fey’s 2004 film centres very much on the theme of high school bullying and cliques, the romantic subplot between Lindsay Lohan and class heartthrob Jonathan Bennett is central to much of the action that takes place. In terms of comedy, you will be hard pushed to find a high school movie that is funnier than Mean Girls, a modern genre classic!

There is no doubt that Heathers is a romantic comedy, but what is slightly different is the fact that it is so dark, giving a completely different take on the high school genre. Winona Ryder and Christian Slater as two young students who fall hard for each other, the only problem being that Slater’s character J.D. is a psychopath! Full of laughs but still sinister in places, Heathers is another '80s classic.

7. Easy a (2010)
The film that put Emma Stone on the map, Easy A is another high school rom com with a twist, taking inspiration from the novel The Scarlet Letter to explore the meanness of the school rumour mill and how it can affect an individual’s experience.
