7 Underrated Disney Movies to Watch Right Now ...

Lydia Feb 7, 2014

There are a lot of underrated Disney movies. There are so many movies out there that it makes sense that they can't all get recognized for how good they are, but there are some that just shouldn't be passed up. So let's take a look at some of the most underrated Disney movies.

1. Atlantis

This is definitely one of my favorites on this list and it is definitely one of the most underrated Disney movies. The characters are so unique in comparison to those in other Disney movies. There is a princess, but she doesn't want to be rescued and she's the strongest and most powerful out of the group. It's a lot of fun to watch and is great because of how different it is.

2. The Hunchback of Notre Dame

I loved this movie when it was first released but to be honest, I haven't watched it that many times and I never owned it. A lot of people didn't like this movie when it first came out, but as people get older and rediscover it, they seem to enjoy it a lot more. Who knows why, but this movie never got the same attention as other animated Disney movies. It's kind of sad, but which movie isn't?

3. Bridge to Terabithia

Sometimes people forget that Disney doesn't equal cartoon. This movie was based on the young adult book about two friends who create an imaginary world together. The book and movie are both really great, but unfortunately the movie isn't given the credit it deserves. There is quite a bit of a cult following, but nothing as substantial as it deserves.

4. The Rescuers

To be honest, I don't even remember this movie that much. When trying to figure out which movies are considered underrated, this one was brought to my attention a lot. The fact that I don't really remember it probably helps to prove the point. It's a great story about friendship and adventure that has really stuck with a lot of children, but hasn't gotten that much attention.

5. The Fox and the Hound

I'm not sure if this movie is as much underrated as it is intentionally forgotten due to emotional scarring. Most people have seen this movie once and then never again because it left them heartbroken, but that doesn't take away from how good of a movie it is. If you've never seen it, get the tissues and watch it because it's a great movie about friendship and the animation is really simple and beautiful.

6. Meet the Robinsons

Some people don't even know that this is a Disney movie, that's how forgotten and underrated it is. This is a fun movie that has themes like love, family, and finding yourself. It's great to see because it kind of shows that people are different and that's OK! Also, what's not fun about time travel? Seriously, it's really funny and makes me crack up whenever I watch it.

7. The Great Mouse Detective

This is a Disney movie that's slightly based on Sherlock Holmes's adventures. It's filled with wit and is a little smarter than other Disney movies, which might be part of the problem. There's a chance that kids didn't really get what was going on in the movie, but people who remember this movie just absolutely adore it. Maybe we should all take the time and rewatch this movie; we just might appreciate it a little more.

There have to be other underrated Disney movies out there. For whatever reason some great movies just get lost in the shuffle. Which of these do you love? Have you never heard of some? What should have made the cut?
